Accounting Manager
Purpose of Position: To provide accurate accounting recording and reporting, accounts payable duties, and payroll processing in accordance with appropriate timelines. Position’s Customer(s): Alaska Waste staff and investors.Essential Duties of Position: The Accounting Manager is responsible for timely and accurately: Reporting financial results monthly and annually including profit/loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow; explaining budget versus actual variances and suggesting opportunities for maximizing cash flow Being primary point of contact for annual financial statement and 401(k) audits; owning the process and striving to minimize management letter comments to ensure accounting processes are in place and adhered to, so Alaska Waste is in accordance with GAAP Leading annual budget preparation efforts Taking financial responsibility and accountability for all aspects of Alaska Waste Overseeing all accounts payable and payroll functions including payments and obtaining proper approvals Supervising all accounting staff which includes hiring, coaching, training, mentoring, evaluating, and developing Preparing sales and property tax returns for all locations Working closely with regulatory analyst to ensure all expense allocations are done according to the cost allocation manual Maintaining current knowledge of accounting practicesJob Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated fiscal responsibility through budget preparation and accurate reporting of financial results Demonstrated leadership skills that are consistent and fair and guide staff to achieve company goals and foster a spirit of enthusiasm, optimism, and cooperation; strong ability to delegate and mentor High level of organizational skills Ability to write and speak in a professional, concise, and grammatically correct manner Proficiency in financial and statistical analysis, decision making, and foresight in problem solving Expertise with Microsoft products and ability to learn computer applications to record, analyze, and report financial and statistical information Self-starter with ability to motivate staff and members of other departments to take ownership and accountability Ability to prioritize effectively and complete tasks within deadlines Positive attitude, excellent teamwork, and interpersonal skills Ability to work well under pressure and interact positively with others Must be able to speak and read English in order to follow written and verbal instructions
Years of Experience required to meet minimum qualifications:
Five years of accounting experience; public accounting preferred. Three years of management experience.
Level of Education required to meet minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; master’s degree preferred. Relevant work experience may be substituted for education requirement
Certifications Required: CPA preferred Reporting Relationships:
Position reports to: Senior Manager of Finance and Administration
Number of Direct Reports (if applicable): 3
Physical Requirements:
LIGHT: Ability to perform light physical demanding work. Physical effort may include lifting, kneeling, touching, feeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive bending/twisting motions. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs occasionally throughout shift. Talking and reciprocal communication is required at least 50% of the day.Working Conditions:
Light work in indoor conditions with exposure to normal room temperatures free from excessive noise. Fumes and odor are void from the usual.
Driving Requirements (if applicable): This position may require occasional driving to attend meetings and training sessions.
