Accounting Manager contract to hire

Our northwest Houston client is in need of an accounting manager.  The Accounting Manager under the leadership of the Director, Financial Services will support the process to provide business essential, cost effective, charge-back services to associates and business units.  The Accounting Manager will 1) provide general accounting services and 2) ensure that all financial data is recorded accurately and on time within Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), company policy and Business Partnership Agreements.  The Accounting Manager also will take action to enhance cross-functional coordination and expand internal communications. Responsibilities are to execute a Monthly Close of the General Ledger.  Maintain the close schedule.  Make materiality decisions on close entries.  Inform Team Leader and business units when the monthly trial balance is ready for review. Prepare journal entries – including recurring entries – for Month End Close.  Analyze, generate and process intercompany entries needed to adjust or reallocate expenses between business units.  Prepare, review and/or post Intercompany billing forms.Maintain well-documented workpapers for journal entries and account reconciliations.  As part of the reconciliation process, review the reasonableness of balance sheet and income statement accounts in order to determine that all necessary entries have been recorded.Reconcile balance sheet accounts in a timely fashion including intercompany balances; dispose of reconciling items in a timely manner.Compare the actual results to the budgeted results and provide variance explanations on a monthly basis.Analyze monthly and year-end financial data to ensure that it is recorded accurately, in accordance with GAAP. Assist the Audit Team Leader and/or associates in reviewing or preparing ancillary audit schedules, audit footnotes, tax schedules and tax forms.Participate in annual business planning process; provide information and assistance to business units, as requested.Analyze the outstanding check listings to determine items required to be reported as Unclaimed Property and filed with the appropriate states.Research and resolve accounting transaction questions and other customer issues in an agreed upon timeframe.  Strive to satisfy customers.  Minimize referrals to management.  Translate and communicate results to numerous stakeholders, including providing a monthly financial reporting package to external business unit customers.Review and approve invoices for payment, ensuring population and accuracy.Collaborates with co-workers and leaders to leverage knowledge and experience to improve processes, procedures and the work environment in order to eliminate inefficient and ineffective processes and procedures.

 

Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; or five to eight years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is preferred.

 

Ability to read, analyze and interpret common automotive and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors.  For immediate consideration please send your resume to rransom@mackeytanner.com  Note this is a contract to hire position.
