Accounting Operations Manager
Position Objective:
Manage and supervise the staff conducting the routine accounting and financial operations of SIL International including cash management, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, data entry, internal banking, credit card processing and sales tax processing. This position reports to the Controller.
Responsibilities:
1. Supervise the staff responsible for cash management, payroll, accounts payable, cashiering, data entry, internal banking and credit card processing. Hire, dismiss, evaluate, train, and supervise the staff as needed to assure that all required tasks are completed timely, efficiently and accurately.
2. Oversee the operation of the accounting software used in the payroll, accounts payable, data entry and internal banking processes to assure it is used correctly, properly maintained, and producing accurate information when needed.
3. Provide information to and answer questions of SIL/WBTI department managers and bookkeepers on accounting operations issues.
4. Manage the accounting operations department so that proper internal controls are used. Identify internal control weaknesses and working with the Chief Accountant institute new controls when needed.
5. Oversee the processes for entering information into the financial systems including preparation of appropriate journals, importing files, etc.
6. Oversee the processes needed to assure all government filings for sales tax, and payroll taxes are made correctly and in a timely manner.
7. As requested, perform research needed (or provide staff) to resolve errors and correct entries related to accounting operations.
8. Perform other tasks as requested by the Controller
Skills and Abilities:
1. Good knowledge of accounting demonstrated by a college degree in Accounting or Business Administration (with Accounting emphasis) or by commensurate work experience.
2. Good computer skills and experience with accounting software and EXCEL
3. Strong organizational skills and ability to organize and oversee multiple processes.
4. Strong management skills demonstrated by appropriate work experience and references including successful experience managing a similar size department.
5. Good people skills. Able to resolve conflicts and assist people with questions and concerns.
6. Good leadership skills. Able to draw out the best in staff and increase their productivity.
7. Good communication skills. Able to explain issues and concerns effectively and to communicate ideas, and thoughts so that others understand.
8. Strong desire to serve others.
