Accounting Specialist
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Accounting Specialist is responsible for the preparation of client billing(s) in addition to assisting with Accounts Payable and Receivable functions. The chosen candidate will also use a variety of financial applications; perform billing activities ranging from pre-bill generation and edits to the processing of accurate and detailed bills for assigned group billing attorneys, as well as other responsibilities related to the billing cycle.
Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct follow up with assigned billing attorneys to investigate outstanding work in process and to ensure the timely preparation and finalization of bills to meet Firm and departmental needs. Processes checks and invoices, produces daily and monthly computer check runs, input check requests, and vendor invoices, along with fielding and resolving vendor inquiries/issues. Balance operating and retainer account totals with the bank; handling client, attorney and staff inquiries; processing credit card payments; maintaining collections by examining A/R aging and payment history; researching and processing customer claims, charge backs, returns; assist in monthly closings and preparation of various management reports. Process daily cash receipts, perform collections calls, review and audit vendor statements, and process weekly expense reimbursements.
Education/Experience
A high school diploma, or the equivalent (GED) is required, although college level accounting classes or undergraduate degree in Accounting is highly desirable 4 years hands-on-billing experience, preferably in a law firm environment CMS, Elite (or equivalent accounting software) experience Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office Excellent interpersonal communication and analytical skills is required
