Job Summary

Performs complex accounting work requiring full professional competency at the non-managerial level. Maintains accounting records and may devise procedures for assigned area, requiring advanced knowledge of complex accounting principles and internal controls. Identifies and resolves accounting related problems that require analysis and evaluation of multiple factors. This employee also manages multiple assignments and processes; anticipates and prevents potential problems. May provide leadership and/or train lower-level accountants or accounting specialists.

Job Functions

Perform second level review of voucher account coding and approvals for selected AP invoices. Ensure that selected vendor coding rules maintained by AP Staff are in line with standard GL coding definitions and liaise with FP&A and the GL Analysts to stay apprised of new coding rules, resolve coding problems, understand budgeting rules, and timely implement changes to coding definitions. Research and explain coding issue questions from Operations or Finance.

Perform Accounts Payable SOX internal controls. Gather test population for quarterly internal SOX audits; perform required remediation if control deficiencies are discovered. Train others in selected controls, as assigned by manager.

For the month-end GL close cycle, prepare the purchase order receipts accrual, amortization of prepaid expense accounts, reconciliation of Accounts Payable sub-ledgers, assist AP Manager with monthly divisional accruals.

Prepare account reconciliations and assist in review of Balance Sheet account reconciliations, as assigned by manager. Provide quarterly flux /variance commentary on assigned balance sheet accounts and assist in compilation of flux comments from other staff.

Resolve complex Accounts Payable and Expense Report system problems; participate globally in ongoing maintenance or system upgrade projects in user testing; train AP staff in new system procedures as needed, and maintain written desk procedures.

Perform back-up functions for the following: For the AP Manager, process changes to the vendor master file, obtain W-9 forms from end users and/or vendors, prepare and file 1099 forms annually, and weekly check run review.

Perform weekly expense report audit for policy and receipt compliance.

Assist AP Manager with process and procedures structuring for any newly merged or acquired companies.

As a primary backup to the cash accountant, prepare wire requests and set up wire transfers within the WellsNet system.

Skills and Education

BA/BS in Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experience.

Knowledge of internal controls as they relate to best practices and Sarbanes–Oxley certification.

Excellent written and oral communication skills. Five years prior accounting experience.

High degree of accuracy and attention to detail, demostrated analytical ability. Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. High degree of customer service. Team player approach.

Excellent PC skills. Excel and Word for Windows preferred. PeopleSoft experience preferred.
