Advanced Markets Financial Underwriting Liaison

Under the direction of the VP of Advanced Markets, this individual will perform a variety of accounting related functions.  Initially, the focus will be to work with dedicated Underwriting resources to develop audit and operational, financial, and compliance controls to detect undisclosed investor-owned life insurance (IOLI) arrangements.  In addition, this person will work with Advanced Markets and Underwriting/New Business as a resource to educate and assist with complex matters involving financial underwriting.  This person will also be called upon to assist with development of case design and marketing initiatives that require accounting knowledge.   Specifically, this person will: Be a resource to Underwriting for development of financial underwriting guidelines and practices. With the Advanced Markets team, coordinate between the field and underwriting on individual cases where financial underwriting is an issue.  Assist in evaluating business values and determine need and amount of insurance. Consult with underwriting on evaluation of 3rd party financial information.  Serve as a team member on cross departmental initiatives with systems, compliance, customer service, and underwriting/new business to develop technologies and audit logic to utilize various sources of available MIS to detect IOLI trends and risks.  Communicate with Hancock and independent distribution partners on matters requiring accounting knowledge  — such as an interpretation of various accounting pronouncements as they relate to insurance issues.  While this person will report to Advanced Markets, this person will spend much of his or her time working with other areas of the business — primarily Underwriting/New Business.  Requirements: Bachelor's degree At least 2 to 3 years of experience in internal or external audit or a related area Professional certification - Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Public Accountant, and/or an MBA or other advanced degree is desirable  Requires someone who is a self-starter and who is able and willing to take initiative to develop innovative strategies.  This is not a position where following the status quo will be rewarded.  This is a new position hired to work on controlling new issues.
