Assistant Controller

The Assistant Controller will be responsible for the timely and accurate recording of all transactions that impact the GMHC general ledger and supervision of accounting operations that include accounts payable, payroll, cash management, and similar activities. Responsibilities include coordinating the monthly closing process and assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements, supervise accounting personnel including reviews of the accuracy of all transactions, bank reconciliations, and accounts payable checks. The Assistant Controller will direct all accounting functions and ensure compliance with Finance policies, procedures and internal fiscal quality control systems throughout the agency. Further duties include assisting in the preparation of all schedules needed to complete the annual agency-wide audit, grant audits, Workers’ Compensation audit and ensure the proper accounting and timely distribution of client related funds from various government support programs. This position also requires training and supervising staff on fiscal procedures, back-up support, assisting with special projects and other related duties assigned by the supervisor. BA or BS degree in Accounting is required. Proven experience in managing accounting operations; demonstrated proficiency in the use of Excel and other accounting/financial applications software; MIP and FundE-Z accounting software is a plus. Supervisory experience necessary with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines; must have good communication skills. The position requires a through knowledge of non-profit accounting, excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills and the ability to articulate and communicate financial information to non-financial staff. The Assistant Controller should have extensive knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting and financial management.
