Job Overview:  A fast growing automotive wire harness and lighting supplier is looking for a qualified and experienced Buyer to work in their Troy, Michigan facility. The selected candidate will report directly to the Purchasing Manager and will be responsible for all aspects of purchasing including vendor selection, price negotiation, make/buy decisions, contract pricing, cost reduction and supply base management. In addition, this position requires a strong sense of team work and understands the urgency of solving problems. This candidate should possess a strong understanding of purchasing procedures and contract review.

Qualifications:

 5 years relevant work experience is preferred.

 Experience in the automotive industry is highly desired. 

 A proven track record of problem solving, critical thinking, performing under pressure and cost reduction is required.

 Knowledge of APQP, QS-9000, TS16949, ISO 1400, SPC, 8D process and PPAP Basics requirements.

 Ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications.

 Knowledge of processes, knowledge in plastics parts, metal stampings, silicone injection molding and electronic components preferred.

 Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

 Establish competitive low-cost sources for component parts and functional assembly groups.

 Support new program launches through participation on launch teams.

 Perform cost and value analysis in cooperation with other departments, locations and product teams.

 Support other departmental members to achieve overall business planning goals in production part, services, and MRO cost reductions, Quality Improvements, and on-time delivery of product.

 Support and/or lead the investigation of potentials for substitution of material and alternate manufacturing processes.

 Establishment and following-up with suppliers concerning Sale of Product Contracts, Long Term Price Agreements, Delivery and Freight Agreements.

 Work with Logistics and Suppliers to ensure that the best method of transport is utilized to ship product.

 Completion of assigned projects in allotted time with expected results.

 Support of Company goals and business objectives.

 Performs related tasks as needed.

 Process internal cost requests.  Responsible for supplier selection, sourcing documentation and recommendations to sourcing committee.  Preparation and approval of purchase orders and RFQ’s including verification of all commercial terms.

 Procure component samples for prototype purposes.

 Excellent computer skills with knowledge of Word, Excel and Power Point are required.

 Travel required up to 25% as necessary
