Job Title: -- Controller
The position reports to the CFO and the essential functions are as follows:
1. Provides day today leadership of the Arlington, VA Government Accounting function.
2. Develops subordinates through appropriate delegation, performance management and training.
3. Provides technical accounting advise to staff relating to Corporate Accounting Policies, GAAP and FAR/CAS.
4. Manage operational costs for the Accounting function consistent with operational plans. Develop corrective plans as required.
5. Provides reports and interprets the results of operations to all levels of management. This includes the formulation of accounting policies, the preparation of financial statements and operating data, the coordination of systems and procedures, and special reports as required.
6. Assures protection for the assets of the business through development and implementation of internal controls consistent with Sarbanes-Oxley Legislation, cooperation with Government, Internal and External Auditors, and coordination with Corporate Risk Management.
7. Ensure that excellent accounting processes and procedures are adhered to by the Accounting function including but not limited to general ledger account reconciliations, the use of periodic closing checklists, flux analysis etc.
8. Assists Business Development and Operations in establishing and maintaining appropriate customer account procedures that enhance customer relationships and provide outstanding customer service.
9. Keeps the CFO informed of performance issues, internal controls concerns and provides advice on all accounting matters.
10. Ensures cash receipts and disbursements are made in accordance with Corporate Cash Management Policies and Procedures. Forecasts short-range and long-range cash requirements and obligations, as a basis for maintaining adequate funds.
11. Monitors inventory levels, costs/billings in process and accounts receivable aging and advises management regarding concerns or corrective actions required.
Management Responsibilities:
1. Develops short- and long-range operating objectives, operating budgets, organizational structure, and staffing requirements.
2. Assures that the duties, responsibilities, and authority of each job are clearly defined, effective, and communicated to incumbents.
3. Assures that management training and development needs are identified and programs initiated.
4. Assures that qualified personnel are selected and that orientation and on-the-job training programs are conducted and effective.
5. Develops an adequate plan for backup and succession of management and other key personnel.
6. Monitors performance of direct reports. Provides prompt and objective coaching and counseling..
7. Assures that effective communications are maintained within areas of responsibility.
8. Consults with all segments of management responsible for policy or action. Makes recommendations for improving the effectiveness of policy or practices.
9. Acts within scope of authority and consistent with company and corporate objectives, guidelines, policies, and practices.
10. Ensures optimum performance of the function. Recommends and implements techniques to improve productivity, increase efficiencies, cut costs, take advantage of opportunities, and maintain state-of-the-art practices.
11. Keeps abreast of current trends and practices in field of expertise. Assumes other special activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.
Education:
B.S.degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA preferred.
Experience and Background:
1. A minimum of eight (8) years' experience ideally gained through increasingly responsible management positions within Finance.
2. A minimum of two (2) years' recent experience as a Controller.
3. Working knowledge of GAAP, FAR and CAS.
4. Knowledge of J.D.Edwards/Peoplesoft/Oracle World and Enterprise One ERP systems highly desirable
5. Proven ability to recruit, train, and motivate personnel in order to balance staffing strength with profitability and growth.
