Job Summary: 

This position is primarily responsible for maintaining the standard cost system. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Perform month-end activities including journal entries, complex financial analysis, and inventory transactions

2. Maintain standard cost system including development of cost standards

3. Update and/or create Bill of Materials

4. Calculate overhead and labor absorption rates

5. Review/analyze manufacturing variances and identify causes

6. Prepare balance sheet reconciliations of inventory accounts

7. Assist with the annual budget, determine units of production through each process to meet sales and inventory plans

8. Calculate cost of new products and other cost studies

9. Analyze yields through each production process and identify trends

10. Other duties and special projects as assigned

 

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred

2. Minimum of 2 years of solid cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment

3. Good organizational skills and strong analytical skills

4. Knowledge of Microsoft applications and computerized accounting and costing systems

5. Knowledge of cost accounting practices and solid understanding of accounting principles

6. Understanding of production processes and manufacturing fixed and variable overhead  costs drivers

7. Possess strong interpersonal skills to relate to all levels of the organization effectively

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

Physical Demands:

1. Office noise level is minimal to moderate.  Approximately 10% of time is spent in production areas that require hearing protection.

2. No repeated or extended requirement to lift objects over 20 pounds.

3. Occasional exposure to a variety of chemicals used in the laboratory and production. 

4. Approximately 40% of time spent performing computer and repetitive arm and hand related activities.

5.  Approximately 30-40% of time spent walking, standing, and climbing stairs.
