Desktop Support Technician

HEIN & ASSOCIATES LLP (H&A), one of the top 100 public accounting firms in the nation, is seeking experienced Desktop Support Technicians for our Downtown Denver and North Dallas locations.

 

Function

 

Under general supervision, provides support for approx 250 users nationwide including desktop and server support and administration.

 

Job Summary

 

The Desktop Support Technician serves as a central point to receive requests for assistance from users to resolve problems with hardware or software applications, diagnose and determine level of severity and take independent action to resolve problems of a standard or routine nature, prioritize system-wide service requests, and escalate complex issues to other technical staff.  Assists in identifying common trends and problem areas affecting users by promptly and accurately logging all reported issues.

 

Positions open in our Downtown Denver and North Dallas locations. Relocation assistance will not be provided.

 

**This position may require work after normal business hours including off site and on call support. Travel to other offices may be required periodically.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include any combination of the following tasks:

 Diagnose problems, determine appropriate course of action, escalation procedures, and provide complete follow-through to successful resolution.Responsible for maintaining, configuring, and upgrading computer desktop, servers, and laptop systems.  May perform minor PC/laptop repairs and coordinates vendor support for more critical repairs.Applies understanding of computer software and hardware to resolve local and remote user’s desktop/laptop computer related problems.Records all user requests, repairs, and reported issues in detail and records completion and resolution.Configures software applications on desktop and laptop computers for new employees.Provides in-depth support on Windows applications, network connectivity and accounts, network printing, and any other hardware/software issue.

· Responsible for maintaining and updating software licensing and asset assignments.

· Works with IT and Professional staff to develop and implement support procedures.

· Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Supervision

 

This position will report to the IT Manager.

 

Education and Experience Requirements

 

Two years college course work in computer science, microcomputers, or related field and one year experience with computer operations required.  Experience in providing technical support for PC’s and local area network preferred.  Two + years working in a Windows networking environment.  Related experience may substitute for college course work.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements

 

· Hardware knowledge (specifically PC systems) with the ability to troubleshoot hardware issues and experience interfacing with vendor support organizations.

· Experience in a Windows 2003 Server and Windows XP environment. Active Directory.

· Good understanding and experience with general connectivity issues in LAN/WAN/VPN/Internet environments.

· Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.

· Organizational and multi-tasking skills.

· Proficiency with using and maintaining MS Office suite of applications.

· Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

· Ability to work independently with general supervision.

· Ability to clearly and concisely communicate technical information to non-technical users at all organizational levels.

· Ability to quickly and accurately diagnose and resolve problems with computer hardware/software form a remote location.

· Pay close attention to detail for prolonged periods of time and under restrictive deadlines.

· Ability to independently initiate appropriate action in case of emergency involving computer systems.

 

· Understanding of TCP/IP.

 

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

Exposure to Citrix Metaframe environments

Ability to configure and troubleshoot Citrix ICA connections

Experience configuring and troubleshooting client VPN connectivity

Windows 2003 Server experience and understanding of Active Directory

A+ certification

Network + certification

Windows Server 2003

MCP or MCSE certification

BA/BS degree in information technology, computer science, or closely related field or equivalent job experience
