General Accounting Supervisor

Responsible for supervision of corporate accounting associates with diverse experience levels that are expected to utilize and/or maintain one or a combination of general accounting systems. Maintain ledger accounts and related activities for the production of financial statements and related reports. Provide record of assets, liabilities and other financial transactions. Balance books periodically and prepares profit and loss, income and balance sheet statements. Maintain receipts and disbursement reports. Analyze the basic financial (income statements, balance sheets, and statements of cash flow) to identify trends and interpret for senior management. Complete management reporting to measure performance against key objectives and strategies. As a supervisor, may be tasked with acting as an additional resource to complete similar daily work assignments of the staff as needed. General supervisory responsibilities include the following: Coordinate staff and execute work assignments at the corporate level in Accounting and Finance. Responsible for completing various projects and ensuring that the milestones in projects are achieved within specified deadlines. Ensure that problems incurred by the staff are resolved in a quick and efficient manner and within corporate policy and procedure requirements. Develop and apply typical managerial duties to include effective leadership, conflict resolution, performance management, disciplinary action, and compensation equity. Partner with higher level management in setting and implementing effective direction of the department and the business unit/division. Coordinate/interface with applicable business units related to the completion of assigned responsibilities and tasks. Maintain acceptable service levels in support of work objectives and duties with internal customers. Duties & Responsibilities 1. Planning: Establish work plans and schedules for ongoing assignments. Distribute assignments to staff based on pre-established priorities, tasks, and skill level. Participate and provide budgetary input in regard to equipment/staffing needs, etc. 2. Mentoring: Coach and monitor team's approach to executing and completing daily work assignments. Serve as a knowledge resource and provide on-the-job training and advice on tasks to be accomplished. Assist in establishing associates¿ accountabilities, reviews performance levels and administer STEP reviews. Discuss with manager performance issues and appropriate coaching needs. 3. Process Improvement: Through the application of detailed knowledge of corporate accounting and finance operations and corresponding job responsibilities, implement/recommend corporate level process improvements for completing assignments. Encourage team to review and improve work processes. Anticipate and determine best processes to prevent problem occurrences and suggest implementation of process improvements for the BU accounting and finance activities. 4. Project and Team Support: Assist team with analysis of corporate accounting records, financial statements, or other finance and accounting related reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards. Ensure all corporate financial and accounting documents, forms and/or tax returns are complete, are accurate, and fulfill the company compliance obligations. As needed, prepare summary reports for one or more of the following: financial performance, audit summaries, tax obligations, process compliance for both internal management and/or external use and other reports as needed. Conduct research and provide detailed analysis for various financial and accounting related activities. 5. Communication: Keep associates informed of internal customer and company expectations. Communicates effectively between front-line associates and management to ensure ongoing priorities and assignments are met. Provide feedback on team performance against established assignments. Negotiate and effectively communicate to all of levels of management. Encourages and coaches team work among staff. 6. Performs other related duties as assigned. Bachelor degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or an equivalent number of years experience in a related capacity in accounting/finance. MBA or graduate level work is desirable. Certification or working towards certification for CPA, CIA or equivalent is encouraged. First level of management responsibility requiring 7-8 years of functional work experience in a corporate Accounting/Finance capacity engaged activities related to one or more of the following: general accounting, cost accounting, tax, financial analysis, or financial audits. Must be able to apply knowledge of one or more of the following in completing daily assignments: GAAP, FAS, Tax regulations (domestic and/or international), Sarbanes-Oxley. Ability to: Plan, organize, supervise and participate in the activities various sections of the Accounting and Finance Division; analyze financial records; prepare and process financial transactions; read, interpret, apply and teach complex written materials, policies and procedures; evaluate and resolve unusual situations through the application of established policy and procedure; identify problems, evaluate alternatives and make decisions; project consequences of decisions; develop new systems and procedures for operational improvements.
