MRB West Division Controller
The MRB West Division Controller directs and has immediate responsibility for the West Region Metals Recycling Business accounting, budgeting, technical accounting, financial reporting and analysis, general ledger and other accounting functions as well as GAAP and SOX compliance. Responsible for consolidation of business region's results and supporting the operations financial analysis requirements. Develops and implements plans to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the various functions including recommending system and process improvements. Analyzes data for decision making by operational management.

Ongoing involvement in the design, assessment, implementation, communication and monitoring of the organization's internal controls in accordance with regulations and laws.
Maintain policies and procedures to ensure efficient operation, maintain adequate internal controls. Strive for continuous improvement within the operations. Challenge conventional thinking in order to obtain the most efficient solutions to issues. Utilize best practices, benchmarks, and metrics to improve organization.
Job Scope:
This position is involved in applying Accounting Principles to solve complex problems inside and outside established parameters. Responsibilities include preparing and coordinating reports, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of transactions and providing direction and supervision to staff. Improved efficiency and accuracy in operations reduces costs and provides reliable data for executive management financial decisions. In charge of the coordination of various functional changes and communications between operations, MRB executives and SSI. This role is responsible for the timely and accurate implementation of various functional policies, procedures and systems at MRB. This position will report directly to the MRB Chief Financial Officer.
Essential Functions:Interface and coordinate financial issues with the West region Metals Recycling Business' (MRB) general managers. Provide meaningful information to drive business improvements and identify business opportunities.Valuate and interpret operating activities and results; make recommendations for improvement; supervise design of systems to improve control; direct special analysis projects.Manage the development of annual budgets, monthly forecasts, five year planning and strategic plans. Responsible for the monthly close process.Oversee all accounting functions and review for reasonableness and accuracy. Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles. Provide technical accounting guidance as required.Foster an ethical business environment. Implement controls in accordance with regulations and laws. Maintain current knowledge of internal control changes and refine internal control process as necessary.Interacting with senior management and external auditors as necessary.Lead the implementation and development of financial and other information systems.Participate and/or lead due diligence teams to evaluate potential acquisitions.Participate and/or lead other projects as required.
Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field.CPA, CMA, or CFM desired or a strong understanding of US GAAP and experience in the preparation of financial statements.9-10 years experience including responsibility to general ledger, interpretation financial statements and business partnering. Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel software, ERP systems.Demonstrated analytical skills and proven leadership skills.Ability to build relationship and excellent communication skills.Willingness to challenge conventional thinking for the betterment of the Company.Proven organization skills, analytical skills and research skills.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to: sit for extended periods of time, up to 3-6 hours per day; be mobile within an office environment; exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or minimal amounts frequently; keyboard for several hours per day; communicate by phone, in person, and in writing in a professional manner. Visual acuity to perform close detail work for operating a computer and examining invoices and vouchers.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position is responsible for the direct supervision of accounting staff and financial analysts. Supervision involves reviewing and approving work before it is finalized and ensuring proper allocation of workload for timely completion.
Interpersonal Contacts:
Internal contacts include MRB senior management, West operational management and SSI departments as necessary to discuss related issues. External contacts include audit firms for review of financial statements; vendors for invoice related questions; and brokers, buyers, and sellers for purchase and sales related questions.
Job Conditions:
Average office environment, some overtime required to meet time deadlines.
