Reinsurance Accounting Manager

It’s a thriving business with an added personal significance and a rare combination that will allow your career to flourish.This position will require managerial responsibility for all aspects surrounding the accounting and financial reporting of the Reinsurance Accounting Department. Provide input regarding the operations of the department as well as departmental policies, procedures and budget. Monthly General Ledger Closing:  Responsibilities encompass all aspects of the G/L closing, including: Coordination of A/R and A/P close. Approval of journal entries prepared by staff. Preparation of monthly journal entries. Ensuring that closing process is completed within the accelerated closing schedule. Financial Reporting:  Duties include the preparation of financial reports to support internal and external reporting requirements: Internal Reporting - monthly financial statements for management, departmental budget vs. actual statements and scheduled reporting. External Reporting - monthly, quarterly and annual reporting to our reinsurance partners and regulatory agencies. Reconciling of G/L Accounts:  Duties include supervising and approving monthly balance sheet reconciliations prepared by staff.  Direct involvement in account reconciliation (see below). Financial Analysis:  Duties include month to month, quarter to quarter, and budget vs. actual reporting.  Analysis of significant variances via coordination with Financial Analyst.  Perform other analysis as directed by Director of Accounting. Lead the area in maintaining and improving production process through automation efforts. Activities include and are not limited to reviewing reports and addressing production related issues. Ensure the group is Sarbanes-Oxley compliant  Manage and developing the team  Participate in complex financial projects  Deliver /create presentations for senior managementHire, terminate and give employee reviewsManage the servicing internal (Line of Business or segment) attorneys, claims and external brokers, reinsurers with specific tasks relative to reinsurance processing or performing tasks as assigned by DirectorParticipate on special projects  UnitedHealth Group is a drug-free workplace.  Candidates are required to pass a drug test before beginning employment 6 to 8 years of significant professional finance or accounting experience with two years of supervisory experience preferred. BS in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience. Prefer advanced degree, CPA or MBA. Ability to anticipate accounting and financial reporting operational issues, assess their implications, and determine a practical solution. Effectively support and promote the personal and professional development of staff. Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills. Advanced analytical skills. Advanced knowledge of industry specific accounting principles and other regulatory requirements. Ability to apply that knowledge to both practical and theoretical accounting applications. Advanced financial statement knowledge. Ability to generate a complete set of financial statements, assess and communicate financial reporting impacts of accounting applications. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects. -Excellent oral and written communication skills.
