STATE AND LOCAL TAX (SALT) - ACCOUNTANT POSITION SUMMARY Today, corporate tax professionals are facing tough challenges. They find themselves walking the fine line between legitimate tax planning and abusive use of tax transaction rules to minimize a company's tax liabilities. This has become as much of an issue in multistate tax planning as it is in federal tax planning. The State and Local Tax Associate works closely with staff on all phases of the delivery of a full range of tax planning, consulting, and compliance services to clients for multiple clients. The SALT Associate will assist with and learn to prepare a variety of State and Local returns. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -Adhere to the highest degree of professional standards and strict client confidentiality. -Prepare tax returns for Income and Franchise Tax, Sales and Use Tax, Property Tax, and other State and Local Tax returns. -Research and consult on various tax matters; utilize tax-related software to prepare and process returns. -Respond to inquiries from the State and other tax authorities. -Maintain a good working relationship with clients and work effectively with client management and staff at all levels to gather information and perform tax services. -Work closely with senior associates and managers to promptly resolve client problems or tax issues encountered in preparation process. -Gain understanding of client operations, processes, and business objectives, and utilize that knowledge on engagements. -Attend professional development and training sessions on a regular basis. -Perform other job-related duties as necessary.QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS -Bachelor's degree in Accounting. A minimum of a 3.0 GPA on 4.0 scale is required and 150 semester hours of education is preferred. Desire to pursue CPA. -A minimum of one year or one busy season of State and Local Tax compliance and/or tax consulting experience; experience in public accounting is a plus. -Excellent verbal and written communication skills. -Strong teamwork and analytical skills and attention to detail. -Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Excel. -Ability to work additional hours as needed.
