Universities in North Carolina founded RTI in 1958 as the first scientific organization in and centerpiece of the Research Triangle Park.   Job Description The Business Unit Controller is the Finance Partner supporting the Health Science Business Unit management team.  The position will have a dual reporting responsibility to the Science and Engineering Group VP Finance and the Health Science Business Unit VP. 

Responsibilities

Financial Planning and Analysis responsibilities:
• Develop business cases, models and analysis as needed to support Business Unit strategic initiatives, capital investments requirements, and potential business alliances. 
• Lead the development of the financial plan portion of the Business Unit strategic plan and updates to the plan as required.
• Monthly and quarterly Business Unit financial forecasts and associated analysis of variances to budgets or external targets.
• Development of annual budgets and support of longer term financial forecasts
• Analysis of financial performance against goals and recommendations for corrective actions to achieve plan where appropriate.
• Work with Business Unit management to establish project fee goals and processes to monitor progress toward goals.
• Provide financial guidance and support for Business Unit center directors.
• Prepare Business Unit input for the Quarterly Business Review as appropriate.
• Lead Business Unit M&A activities including business case analysis and due diligence
• B&P and IR&D analysis and reporting for the Business Unit
• Lead financial analysis effort required by Business Unit VP and Center Directors.

Accounting responsibilities:
• Work with the SEG Contracts and Proposals Accounting group to ensure accurate project forecasts and performance to project forecast.  Incorporate forecasted project results into BU forecasts
• Educate and inform Business Unit management on financial reporting requirements and compliance to RTI financial regulations, procedures and processes. 
• Monitor Business Unit staff adherence to RTI financial regulations and work with Corporate and Group financial management to ensure appropriate procedures, processes and financial controls are in place to ensure compliance to regulations.
• Establish Business Unit financial reserves as appropriate with analysis to support reserve requirements.
• Monitor Business Unit receivables (billed and unbilled) and work with Corporate and SEG Finance offices to resolve issues.

Qualifications

• Education - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required.  CPA and/or MBA or equivalent experience required.
• 10 - 15 years industry experience and management position in financial analysis and or accounting positions for a $50+ million division of a large company or Senior Financial Management position in a small privately held company or start-up.
• Knowledge of government contracting regulations including FAR and CAS
• Strong financial analysis skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software
• Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
• Supervisory experience
