SENIOR MANAGER: JOINT VENTURE ACCOUNTING

Leads accounting and reporting of day-to-day operations for an emerging business unit, including billing, general ledger activities, business unit support and management reporting. Directs the close activities for the business unit and coordinates with corporate accounting groups for monthly closing and financial statement variance analysis for internal and external reporting requirements. PREFERENCESCandidates must have degree in accounting. Energy experience preferred. CPA desiredESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises employees performing general ledger-closing activities and preparing internal and external reporting information Coordinates timing of closing activities with corporate accounting and other supported departmentsReviews and approves all accounting transactions, reconciliations, and SOX controls processed for the business unit to ensure activities are in compliance and maintains documentation to validate that internal controls are operating effectively Analyzes and reviews variance reporting for internal management reporting, external reporting, and external audit requirementsCommunicates results to corporate accounting groups and business unit management and establishes meetings with key business unit and corporate personnel to review business results, needs, and trendsEvaluates new accounting transactions and potential business deals for appropriate application of GAAP, SEC, and FERC rulesProvides accounting-related consulting services to business unit management on strategic business decisions, potential dealsDevelops and maintains relationships and communication with business unit management and key staff to proactively meet their needs in a dynamic business climate and provide the appropriate accounting support and treatment for business transactions Directs accounting staff to research and develop accounting white papers, policies, and proceduresCollaborates with internal and external auditors to gain agreed upon treatment of specific accounting transactionsOther special projects as assignedCOMPETENCIES: Strong accounting skills including a mastery of general ledger functionality, accounting concepts, and internal control requirementsAbility to make business process improvements and manage resources to meet goals across multiple projectsAbility to lead multi-discipline, high-performance work teamsDemonstrated competencies in strategic thinking and ability to develop efficient solutions to diverse and complex business problems Demonstrated competencies in relationship management, group leadership dynamics, and project managementExperience in the integration of new business units into existing systemsAbility to function in a high stress environmentAbility to foresee and solve complex problems at a rapid paceQUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in accounting, with seven to nine years of related experience, to include two years of management experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline.Master's degree is preferred. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:Certified Public Accountant and/or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:Hires, terminates, trains, coaches, rewards, and disciplines employees. Creates performance development plans and performs periodic formal reviews.
