SVP Accounting--Insurance

SVP Accounting--Insurance will oversee the accounting and reporting for various corporate subsidiaries. The responsibilities will vary between monthly reporting, reviews, analysis, budgets, M&A, compliance, and internal controls. Ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of GAAP reporting, mergers and acquisitions experience, specialized knowledge in insurance brokerage industry, and CPA.Essential Responsibilities: Oversee accounting functions for certain corporate subsidiaries:• Monthly reporting• Board reports• Variance Analysis – analyze and communicate with subsidiary personnel financial statement variances.• Review of reconciliations for all asset and liability accounts.• Asset valuation and impairment testing.• Review and assist with Board reports and other internal management report preparation.• Perform due diligence for future acquisitions.• Oversee computer conversions and integration to Kirchman as necessary for subsidiaries’ systems and future acquisitions.• Work with division heads to prepare budgets.• Compliance – work with subsidiaries to ensure regulations and laws specific to their industries are identified and followed.• Internal controls – assist subsidiaries with ensuring that proper internal controls are in place and policies and procedures are documented.• Research • Special projects Minimum Required Skills or Competencies:• Four year accounting degree• Minimum of ten years of progressive accounting experience• CPA • Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience• Strong understanding of GAAP reporting• Regulatory reporting experience• Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills• Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications• Strong analytical abilitiesDesired Skills or Competencies:• Mergers and acquisitions experience• Consolidated reporting experience• Specialized knowledge in insurance brokerage industry Duties – Monthly:• Month end close process – coordinate with subsidiaries.• Review reconciliations• Record revenue transactions from entities.• Update reconciliations through month end and agree to Kirchman.• Trust account summaries• Bonus calculations• Review financials with heads of divisions• Board report reviewDuties – Quarterly:• Sox certs for internal audit.• 10Q / 10K for insurance segment, Goodwill and M&A reporting.Other duties not specified:• Goodwill impairment testing – May and November (Off April and Oct #’s).• M&A work• Special projects• Budgets – annual• Audits – handle requests from all auditors – internal and external.• General assistance / questions from subsidiaries – as needed.
