Senior Claims Examiner

Argonaut Specialty offers excess and surplus (E&S) insurance to businesses that generally cannot purchase insurance from standard lines insurers due to the perceived risks related to their businesses.  Focusing on medium-to large sized premium accounts, Argonaut Specialty provides general liability, coverage’s to commercial enterprises on a primary, excess and umbrella basis. 

 

Argonaut Specialty currently has a challenging opportunity for a seasoned casualty claims professional to work out of our New York City Office.  This enthusiastic, self-motivated individual will be part of a team-oriented working environment

 

Specific job duties and responsibilities include:

 

· Assignment of all levels of claim severity including small, serious and catastrophic injuries or complex coverage issues.

· Plan, recommend, reserve and execute the investigation, valuation, disposition and settlement of claims in a manner consistent with claim settlement policies and procedures.

· Properly assess the indemnity and expense exposure of assigned claims and achieve fair, equitable and timely claim dispositions.

· Manage litigation nationwide involving primary, excess and umbrella policies,

· Preparing reservations of rights and coverage position letters, analyzing coverage issues, and managing or handling coverage litigation.

· Complete large claim reports for management and provide initial notices and updates to reinsurance broker and/or carrier as required by treaty.

· Assist with underwriting due diligence and implementation of new lines of business.

· Monitor state specific trends and their impact on insurance claim exposures.

· Develop and share business knowledge and claim handling expertise with team members and business partners, to assist in achievement of the Group goals for business acumen and results, and the development of specialized, superior technical expertise within the organization.

 

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

 

· College degree preferred, CPCU, AIC, ASLI, desired.

· 5 years of overall general liability-related experience to include handling multiple jurisdictions within a broad range of severity and complexity, including primary, excess and umbrella claims

· Strong focus and passion around delivering outstanding customer service to internal and external customers.

· Must have consistent high level of performance and achievement over career span.

· Demonstrated level of competency in the following areas: action oriented, business acumen, written and verbal communication skills, conflict resolution, negotiation, critical thinking, analytical ability, decision quality and timeliness, ethics and values, facilitation skills, initiative, interpersonal skills, planning and organizing, and results oriented.
