Senior Project Accountant

These consulting engagements include accounting system design and implementation, budgeting, business and strategic planning, litigation support and forensic accounting, profitability studies and revenue enhancements, training, and recruitment.
A Grossberg Company LLP client based in Washington, DC is seeking a Senior Project Accountant. This client is an entrepreneurial real estate development company in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Across the past twenty three years they have earned a reputation for creating value and a “sense of place” in underdeveloped yet emerging areas. This client continues to win praise from the press, community leaders, and neighbors for its pioneering work in enhancing communities.
As a Senior Project Accountant you will report to the Accounting Manager and have responsibility over performing real estate accounting tasks for an assigned portfolio. You will prepare monthly reporting packages as well as prepare income and expense forms and tax work papers on an annual basis.
The day-to-day responsibilities may include:
Portfolio Accounting: Prepares monthly, quarterly and year-end reporting packages for their assigned portfolio including the following:
· Prepare variance and/or flux report for each property
· Prepare quarterly and year-end operating and financial statements on a cash and accrual basis
· Performs an annual review of expense pools for real estate tax and operating expense reconciliations
· Conducts monthly property bank statement reconciliation
· Reconciles all debt related accounts including reserves and escrows
· Reviews automated management fee calculations monthly
· Prepares all necessary portfolio journal entries
· Conducts monthly reconciliation of A/R and A/P sub-ledgers; including corporate to portfolio
· Reconciles all inter-company accounts
· Reviews and approves A/P and AR batches
· Prepares budget templates; uploads data from Foresight into MRI
· Prepares work papers and/or financial statements, in preparation for annual income and expense process in all jurisdictions
· Sets up new entity IDs in MRI as directed
· Sets up new buildings in MRI as directed
Tax Accounting:
· Prepares tax work papers for all assigned entities annually
Other duties:
· Records property refinancing, acquisitions and dispositions
· Reconciles job cost accounting associated with development and redevelopment projects
· Participates, in conjunction with the controller, accounting managers and other accounting staff, in the development and ongoing revision of department policies and procedures
Required Skills:
· MUST have a Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Accounting MUST have between two (2) to four (4) years accounting experience, preferably in real estate; prior experience in public accounting is a plus
· An understanding of automated accounting systems is required; knowledge of MRI is a plus
· Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and listening skills
· Computer literacy required including proficiency with MS Outlook, MS Word and MS Excel
· Strong verbal and written communication skills required
Performance Expectations:
· Completion of accurate, reliable work papers within prescribed deadlines
· Completion of month-end and quarter-end closing activities by prescribed deadlines
· Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial statements
· Ensure timely financial reporting to lenders and senior management
