The Technical Accounting Department is comprised of six CPAs or CPA candidates. Technical Accounting is a group that handles the specialized accounting needs of the company as well as many special projects which are of accounting nature. The nature of some of those projects change according to upper management or the company's needs. However, the main areas of responsibility are: I. ACQUISITIONS / DISPOSITIONS WORK-Review acquisition / disposition agreements-Assist in identifying acquisition reserves and setting up disposition analysis-Reconcile integration spending to reporting packs-Review reporting packs and assist in resolving issues-Assist in analyzing integration spending and reallocating related accruals II. INERNATIONAL AND DOMESTIC FINANCIAL REVIEWS AND VARIOUS INTERNAL CONTROL REVIEWS-Assist in performing off-site financial reviews, including, testing, assessing and reporting to Corporate Management on issues ranging from operational to financial concerns. Reviews will include both International and Domestic reporting units.-Assist in preparing formal written reports setting forth recommendations for local, division and Corporate Management to strengthen and improve operations and internal controls.-Distribute Financial Control Checklists (survey on balance sheet condition) and prepare summary of findings.-Assist in monitoring Group Control's recommendations and report potential issues to Management.-Assist in reviewing new processes for control effectiveness and/or satisfy upper management's specific concerns.III. RESEARCH-Assist in researching accounting issues ranging from 'what if' analysis to 'can we do this' to the required treatment of a potential transaction.-Assist in reviewing new accounting pronouncements and their impact on the business.-Review and summarize new IFRS and US FAAP accounting releases (e.g. ' IAS, FAS, EITF abstracts, Technical Accounting Bulletins, Statement of Positions) and IAS or SEC releases for applicability to the company. IV. SPECIAL PROJECTS-Review and update Financial Policies and Procedures and Schedule of Authority Manuals.-Assist Project Managers in the Sarbanes-Oxley 404 reviews and testing process.-Miscellaneous Special Projects: Previous special projects have included assisting external auditors on special purpose financial statements, A/P review of unapplied / unpaid invoices, purchase card pre-implementation review, and a new royalty information system. Experience: 2 years progressive public accounting experience or a mix of public accounting and private accounting experience for a large public corporation.Education/Training: Undergraduate accounting degree; Certified Public Accountant preferred or CPA candidate with parts passed; Skills: Excellent Communication skills, PC proficiency (Excel, Word)Other: Strong work ethic, analytical, professional presence, hands-on approach.
