We are seeking Senior-level Consumer Real Estate and non Real Estate Underwriters with 5-7 years of experience to review and analyze complex loan applications. The successful candidate will have experience analyzing credit risk to determine credit worthiness based upon guidelines and established standards with credit authority to approve or deny credit within approved lending limits. The Senior Underwriter is responsible for underwriting all conventional conforming and jumbo loans in accordance with investor guidelines in a consistent and timely manner. Underwrite FHA/VA, state housing and specialty programs in accordance with requirements dictated by the Department of HUD, Veteran Affairs and appropriate state housing agencies. Responsible for analyzing and evaluating all aspects of borrower's credit, employment/income and assets profile. Make final decision on acceptance or decline of loan requests. Analyze the Real Estate appraisal report and make a decision on information supplied to ensure that marketability and value of property are supported within the reports. Ensure that the appropriate investor's guidelines are met and make a final decision on the acceptance of the report. Ensure that the Bank's credit policy and procedures are adhered to and the product guidelines are followed. Utilize automated underwriting systems as dictated by product and investor. Ensure the accuracy of all necessary criteria for specific loan types, products, rates and fee structures. Ensure that all credit and appraisal documentation meets the necessary requirements and are completed properly. Support loan originators, sales managers and processing staff in structuring difficult deals. Responsible for making counteroffers on loans that do not conform to products under which they were originated. Communicate and explain loan suspensions to the processing manager and the processor. Communicate numerous, consistent inadequacies in credit packages and appraisal reports received for underwriting review to Manager. Review and approve all contingencies of underwriting in a timely fashion. Mentor processors to advanced skill development, including the principles of underwriting. In addition, the Senior Underwriter will assist management in analyzing reports relevant to turn times, service levels, etc. Provide training support to sales force as needed. Attend appropriate seminars to stay current on market trends and developments. Assist in training of junior underwriters and processors. Evaluate exceptions and determine when corrective action is required. Perform other duties as required.Required Skills: Four-year college degree or equivalent experience. Thorough knowledge of residential mortgage lending, products and procedures. Thorough knowledge of FNMA/FHLMC, FHA, VA, state housing guidelines and procedures. Thorough knowledge of AUS, including DU, LP and CLOUT. Working knowledge of Window-based products. Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills. Direct endorsement designation required.
