Sr. Accountant, Real Estate
Location: Seattle WA
The Sr. Accountant, RE provides analysis, review and general accounting functions by performing the following duties:
• Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and other reports to ensure accurate presentation of financial reports and information.
• Review and analyze data from various sources to identify issues and resolve problems associated with projects and department operations, including incurred costs, contractual commitments, budgets and forecast projections.
• Use judgment and strong professional skills to determine the appropriate procedure and process for the preparation of accounting records, research of transactions and reporting.
• Contribute to the annual operating budgeting and forecasting process through analysis and review of operating budget proposals.
• Review and document complex accounting transactions, and provide guidance to less experienced staff on appropriate accounting treatment.
• Direct the preparation of entries to general ledger accounts, often guiding others in the performance of these tasks.
• Perform special projects and respond to the requests of other senior company personnel.
• Prepare and maintain tax schedules and apply basic knowledge of tax rules to assist the tax department in the preparation of tax returns.
• Review contracts, orders, and vouchers for accuracy based on established policies and procedures. Provide direction to accounting staff on the procedures for reviewing documentation.
• Communicate independently with other company personnel and contacts outside the company with limited supervision.
• Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity and fulfillment of commitments.
• Develop the key financial metrics necessary for the successful management and reporting of the various business initiatives Vulcan engages in.
• Provide detailed financial and operational analysis for ad hoc projects.
• Provide on-going monitoring, analysis and assessment of Vulcan’s business initiatives to ensure that the investment return potential is being actively pursued.
Knowledge, experience, skill, and/or ability
Required
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent, or an advanced degree
• Must be able to perform various work assignments with limited supervision
Preferred
• Strong understanding of financial systems and internal controls
Preferred computer skills
• MS Office
• Advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, Windows, PowerPoint
• PeopleSoft experience
• Experience with accounting software programs and systems
Education/experience/certifications
Bachelors Degree in Accounting or a Liberal Arts Degree plus a CPA, CFA, CMA or Masters Degree and 3+ years relevant experience.
