Our client is in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology arena.They have a significant product pipeline with seven products in clinical development, including drugs to treat hepatitis C, lupus and other autoimmune diseases, anthrax exposure, and cancer. In recent years, they have progressed toward becoming a late stage development and commercialization company, and have several Phase 3 trials underway for three of  their key development programs.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a bright, innovative and proactive individual to assume an important role in their Accounting Department, having high visibility with senior management and within the organization. The role will provide a comprehensive understanding of their operations and an opportunity to make a difference in the day to day functions of our Accounting Department, with an emphasis on implementing new systems and processes to support future growth.

Ideal candidates will have technical accounting expertise, a strong foundation of business experiences, solid project management skills and direct management experience.

Your primary duties will be:
• Manage the G/L group within the Accounting Department, supervising a staff of 5 accountants
• Coordinate, perform and prepare the monthly closing to meet target deadlines
• Identify and evaluate financial activity for appropriate accounting treatment
• Prepare, review and analyze monthly financial statements
• Review journal entries, reconciliations, schedules and financial statement analysis prepared by staff
• Identify improvement opportunities within the accounting processes
• Contribute to the development of system requirements, system testing, new implementations, reports and other projects
• Maintain SAP system including G/L Report Writer and other G/L items such as allocations, chart of accounts and foreign subsidiary balance sheet re-evaluation
• Liaise with both external and internal audit as needed
• Support our external auditors by preparing account analyses and footnote schedules
• Support other financial activities such as budgets, forecasts and other related matters
• Provide staff coaching and identify needs and opportunities for development. Set goals for staff and monitor progress against goals.
• Manage the analysis/documentation of ad hoc requests as required

Requirements:


• B.S. in Accounting
• CPA
• “Big 4” public accounting experience
• Minimum of 5 – 10 years of corporate experience
• Demonstrated supervisory experience
• Must be flexible, adaptable to changing environment, have the ability to multi-task, be self-motivated, detail oriented, meet critical deadlines and have a strong sense of accountability for managing results in accordance with assigned goals
• Excellent problem solving skills
• Flexibility and demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment within the department and stakeholders of the Company
• Applied working knowledge of US GAAP, US GAAS and, preferably, PCAOB Auditing Standards
• Experience with accounting system software, preferably SAP
• Ability to interact and communicate effectively with multiple levels of internal and external associates
• Excellent written and oral communication, organizational, interpersonal, analytical, presentation and research skills
