Staff Accountant
JOB SUMMARY:
Maintains general ledger entries and compiles various management and financial statements/reports, dealing with moderately complex concepts, data, analyses, and issues pertaining to balance sheet, profit and loss, or reporting. Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures.
· PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares and maintains moderately difficult general ledger entries (i.e., journal entries, accruals, recurring entries, expenses, downloads, coding, etc.), for departments, cities as assigned, ensuring data is accurate, complete, and current.
Identifies, records, and reports financial activity to maintain compliance. Maintains current, detailed knowledge of financial statements and reports for assigned groups.
Reviews assigned balance sheet accounts, identifying and researching issues, and initiating corrective actions and adjustments.
Collaborates with staff in other work groups, departments, and locations, establishing and maintaining working relationships:
To obtain information required to complete entries, resolve issues, analyze finances, etc.
To function as primary contact regarding accounting issues/questions.
To provide advice and guidance regarding accounting procedures and controls.
Participate in periodic, quarterly, and year end external and internal audits/reviews including:
Preparing appropriate schedules
Gathering information
Conducting research
May compile response for management review.
Leads financial review meetings with assigned departments and cities to discuss and explain financial performance and activities, capital spending, progress toward accounting goals, headcounts, etc. Researches and follows up on identified issues and initiates corrective measures.
Analyzes and prepares monthly variance analysis and explanations for assigned departments, cities, and/or projects.
Assists with compiling and completing:
Monthly internal financial reporting packages for management and Board of Directors.
Participates in special projects as requested. works directly with Fixed Assets
May assist in training new staff accountants regarding systems, processes, workload, procedures, etc.
Performs other duties as assigned.
· EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors degree in accounting or equivalent combination of applicable education and experience.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Strong knowledge of:
financial statement preparation.
Review variance analysis.
Internal accounting controls.
Working knowledge of accounting and authoritative accounting pronouncements.
Very strong PC skills and proficiency in desktop packages (preferably Microsoft Word and Excel).
Good written and verbal communication skills.
