Staff Accountant

Midsize Credit Union in New York City seeks a Staff AccountantOverview of Position:Join an 8 person accounting team, report to the Accounting Manager and involve yourself in accounting and financial analysis in conjunction with financial reports, budget and accounting systems Responsibilities:Prepare financial statements in addition to financial and statistical reports in accordance with the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulationsReconcile general ledger and various bank accounts in a timely manner including resolving all outstanding items.Prepare journal vouchers, accounting records and documents in accordance with record preservation and retention guidelines.Assist all auditors during periodic audits and examinations. Prepare and submit accounting records related to assigned accounting functions and ensure that support documentation is available when necessary Update the Accounting Procedures ManualProcess depreciation and reconciliation of fixed assets GL accounts monthlyPerform special projects as assigned and provide support for other accounting team membership. Assist in the training of new employeesExperience Required:BA in Accounting Minimum 2 years related work experienceStrong PC skills including knowledge of spreadsheets software and word processingGood oral and written communication skillsFull range of accounting and financial knowledge, professional appearance and willingness to work flexible hours
