Staff Accountant - Fixed Assets
Clean Harbors Environmental Services, ranked 5th on the Boston Globe's list of "The Best Massachusetts Businesses 2007" and voted Company of the Year 2006 by the Boston Business Journal is searching for a Staff Accountant to be based at the corporate headquarters located in Norwell, MA.
Our accounting group is heavily involved in the operations of the business and the Staff Accountant, specializing in fixed assets, must be able to interact with field managers as well as senior level executives on a daily basis. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years experience in fixed assets and depreciation, have experience doing reconciliations, and drills. In addition the ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to change direction quickly, the ability to multi-task and still maintain a strong attention to detail. Some experience dealing with purchase orders is valued. The ideal candidate will also be experienced in PeopleSoft or Oracle, as well as have strong MS Excel skills
The Staff Accountant reports jointly to the Fixed Assets Manager and the Environmental Accounting Manager and is responsible for assisting in the monthly financial close, internal and external reporting and forecasting budgets. The essential elements of the position include, but are not limited to;
1.Prepare reconciliation of balance sheet accounts including fixed assets and environmental spending..
2. Maintain environmental and capital expenditure project trackers.
3. Track Enviromental Spending Authorizations.and Capital Approval Forms.
4. Approve environmental and fixed asset Purchase Orders.
5. Process lease documents.
6. Assist in the preparation of the monthly and year end financial statements.
7. Prepare and post monthly journal entries.
8. Prepare reports to help management understand how the company is performing.
9. Performs other assignments as assigned by management.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
· BA/BS Degree in Accounting or related discipline
COMPETENCIES:
· Proficiency in Windows based applications
· General Accounting knowledge
· Strong knowledge of Excel
· Communication skills
· Attention to detail
· Able to maintain confidentiality
· Able to prioritize between multiple tasks
· Able to recognize and investigate unusual amounts on financial statements
· Responsible for reading, understanding and following applicable narratives pertaining to Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) requirements. Also responsible for reporting to supervisor (a) potential control deficiencies noted (b) procedural changes that have or may occur which may require update to SOX documentation and (c) suggesting improvements to the financial control environment.
