Supervisor or Manager of Financial Reporting

A biopharmaceutical company is seeking a Supervisor/Manager of Financial Reporting.  The position is based in the Westchester County, NY area.

Position Responsibilities:

 

The responsibilities of the Supervisor/Manager of Financial Reporting principally include the following:

 Assist in preparing the Company’s financial and related filings with the SEC, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q and, as applicable, 8-K and S-3.  Prepare relevant financial sections of these SEC documents, including the financial statements and MD&A.Prepare schedules for the Company’s quarterly close, such as balance sheet and income statement fluctuation analyses, and analyses of revenues and various operating expenses.Accumulate, organize, and maintain supporting documentation for all SEC filings.Technical accounting research, which includes keeping abreast of new accounting pronouncements and other related guidance from regulatory authorities such as the FASB, IASB and SEC.  Includes researching and documenting the Company’s accounting treatment of new or unusual transactions.  Also includes researching industry trends in accounting and financial reporting and considering their applicability to the Company.  Responsible for ensuring compliance with documented financial reporting controls.Assist with preparation of financial sections of the Company’s Proxy Statement and Annual Report.  Assist Investor Relations and Corporate Communications with press releases and other corporate communications, as applicable.  As needed, assist in preparing financial communications to or analyses for the Audit Committee of the Company’s Board of Directors.Coordinates annual audit of the Company’s 401(k) Plan with external auditors and prepares annual financial reports for the Company’s 401(k) Plan.  In addition, prepares annual financial report in connection with the A-133 audit of the Company’s grant from the National Institutes of Health.Other projects, as assigned, such as assistance in responding to SEC Comment letters or preparing written SEC communications, and assistance with financial system/software implementations from a financial reporting perspective.

 

Reporting Structure:

 

This position reports directly to a Senior Manager on the Company’s Accounting team and interacts directly with various senior management and staff members in Accounting and Finance, including the Senior Director and Assistant Controller, Vice President and Controller, and Senior Vice President and CFO.  Also works with various senior management and staff members of Investor Relations, Corporate Communications, Legal, Human Resources and Internal Audit departments.  There are no formal direct reports. 

 

Position Requirements:

 

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.  CPA required.

 

Experience:

We seek candidates with 5 to 7 years of accounting experience with SEC registrants, including “Big 4” public experience.  Must possess in-depth knowledge of U.S. accounting principles, including FASB requirements and interpretations, as well as SEC rules and regulations.

 

Skills:

Excellent written and verbal communications skills are mandatory.  Demonstrated proficiency at technical accounting research/analysis, and writing technical accounting memorandums is required.  We seek an individual who is a team player, interacts effectively with others, has the ability to think independently and proactively propose solutions, and wants be challenged and grow with our company.  Strong organizational and project management abilities, and attention to detail are a necessity. 

 

Computer Proficiency:  

High proficiency with Microsoft applications is required.  Experience with ERP financial applications and financial reporting tools is a significant plus (Oracle financial applications, specifically, is preferred).
