VP OF INTERNATIONAL ACCOUNTING

LARGE COMPANY LOCATED IN NORTHERN VA, IS SEARCHING FOR A VP OF INTERNATIONAL ACCOUNTING  This position reports to the Chief Accounting Officer and is ultimately responsible for the accounting and reporting of the financial results of communities under development and/or operating currently within the UK, Germany and Canada and the financial results of the management companies within those countries. Responsibilities include supervising the international owner reporting staff of five which handles the following: Reporting requirements and distributions for all international joint venture and managed portfolios Maintaining relationships with portfolio owners Handling annual external audits under IFRS Translation of foreign financial statements and ensuring local GAAP to US GAAP adjustments are made for inclusion in consolidated US GAAP financial statements Preparation of all schedules and reconciliations required for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, owner reporting and consolidated variance analyses and financial statement support Recording international acquisitions and sales Review and explanation of monthly international operations variances to budget Maintaining exchange rates and ensuring proper configuration within multicurrency module of Peoplesoft accounting system and writing queries and reports Cash management for owners Miscellaneous journal entries including equity accounting, capital transactions, and others Preparation of annual distribution forecasts and debt compliance forecasts. This position also supervises three Country Controllers who handle the following: Supervision of general ledger, accounts payable, payroll and billing functions Month end and year end close process for all foreign companies Annual statutory audits and assistance with annual external audits Cash management Debt compliance Local tax compliance Sarbanes-Oxley compliance Preparation of annual operating budgets for all foreign companies. This position will also work closely with the international capital group for deal structuring, the debt group for international debt compliance and the tax group for international tax compliance. Additional responsibilities include staff development, process improvement, preparation of and accountability for department operating budget, participation in monthly executive P&L meetings and 10-Q and 10-K certification meetings. Successful applicant must be a CPA with 12-15 years progressive accounting experience that includes international accounting and knowledge of IFRS and financial statement reporting. Applicant must also have 7-10 years supervisory experience. Excellent verbal and written communication skills also required.
