Business Systems Analyst Position

 

New York Media is searching for a Business Systems Analyst to support its business operations in its Downtown Manhattan headquarters. Under a new management team, the company has embarked on an exciting transformation. We are seeking applicants who wish to be a part of this dynamic environment and explore a wide range of systems as we build out our technology infrastructure.

 

DutiesPrimary responsibility for hands-on administration and troubleshooting of the magazine’s business systems: MSG display advertising, Atex Enterprise Classified, Coda financials, Salesforce.com and ACT contact management, as well as any future business systems. Provide application support for users, and support frontline IT analysts to diagnose and resolve issues. Create and develop basic to intermediate reporting through Structured Query Language (SQL) and Crystal Reports. Develop procedures, documentation and trainings for IT helpdesk analysts and business end users on supported systems. Assist Business Systems Manager in system implementation projects as well as identify opportunities for best practices within the bounds of the Business Systems. Ability to work occasional nights and weekends to support projects or operations.

 Requirements 2+ years experience in hands-on technical administration of magazine/newspaper/web publishing or business systems (experience with our vendors a definite plus). Strong knowledge of magazine or newspaper operations, particularly advertising (Display, Marketplace and Web,) and finance. Solid knowledge of SQL, with SQL Server, Oracle or MySQL database administration experience preferred. Prior experience with data warehousing a plus. Experience with Crystal Reports and Cognos. Experience with hands-on administration of Linux/UNIX and Windows operating systems preferred. Some experience in design and development of applications using Visual Basic, Java, C++, Perl or UNIX shell scripting with exposure to full software development lifecycle preferred. Experience in the development of web-based applications. Strong technical aptitude, with ability to independently learn new technologies. Superior customer relationship skills, coupled with strong analytical and communication abilities. Ability to self-manage. Good business sense and the ability to understand the business processes underlying technology. Bachelors degree in Business, Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent experience.
