PRODUCTION EDITOR

Richardson-based QuestCorp Media Group Inc. is seeking a production editor who can hit the ground running in a fast-paced publishing environment. This editor will report to the editorial director and will manage the creation and editing of magazines for up to 60 clients. This includes planning and implementing editorial content and writing display type.

Responsibilities

The production editor will be responsible for a portfolio of custom publications and will copy edit, preparing magazines for design, proof, and make revisions. This person will write headlines and other display type, and edit photos. The role will require communicating with internal and external customers through all stages of the process.

The production editor may also help research, compile, and write high-quality general industry articles appealing to a broad audience. Ensure that articles are entertaining, educational, or both. Obtain all appropriate reprint permissions and copyright approvals for text and images.

The production editor will work with freelance writers, editors, and copy editors to ensure all publications meet the highest standards for accuracy and consistency. May also prepare professional article assignments for distribution to writers, review drafts, and rewrite when necessary.

The production editor will maintain appropriate records on editorial and production processes. Ensure a consistently high level of quality control. Ensure that all publications meet QuestCorp style rules, which reference The Associated Press Stylebook and The Chicago Manual of Style.

Experience Desired

Experience as a copy editor for a consumer magazine, newspaper, trade publication, or journal is desired. Familiarity with proofreaders’ marks, The Associated Press Stylebook and The Chicago Manual of Style. Writing experience is mandatory. The production editor must work independently and meet deadlines with minimal supervision on complex, multiple assignments. This person also will demonstrate excellent organizational skills and the ability to work under deadline pressure.

Knowledge of print, electronic and Web publishing procedures and tools is helpful as is familiarity with PC and Macintosh platforms.

A bachelor’s degree in English, communications, or a related field or equivalent professional experience is required. Minimum of five years experience in a publishing or graphic design environment. Salary range is $34,000 to $40,000 commensurate with experience.
