Scope:
Develops engaging and innovative design solutions based on conceptual brand strategies for wine, spirit and corporate brands. Position will be responsible for the creation of effective design which promotes brand integrity and helps ensure premium product positioning in the marketplace. Responsible for the creation of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional designs, concepts, and sample layouts based on knowledge of layout principles and aesthetic design concepts.
Under the supervision of the Design Studio Manager, the Senior Designer, Branded Environments will manage all day-to-day activities, reservation/bookings, theater set ups, and technical elements of the On/Off Premise Theaters, the Design Innovation Galleries and the tunnel window displays (the “facility”).
Basic Function:
Produces and assists in the design and production of graphic design projects, brand identity and package design assignments. Responsible for materials selection, primary and secondary package design and artwork creation. Interfaces with brand teams to ensure design directions are consistent with brand strategy as well as other marketing communications. Creates original design and artwork as well makes revisions to outside agency-created work.
The Senior Designer will work closely with brand managers and brand teams to customize (including lighting, sound, scenery, shelf sets, etc.) the different creative environments to produce brand meetings, discussions and productions. The Senior Designer will manage an inventory of wine and spirits shelf sets for the on/off premises environments and will be responsible for development, scheduling and management of the various design exhibitions in the facility as well as other areas on campus (Bourbon St. Tunnel, Founder’s Hall Gallery).
Responsibilities:
Contributes to the design and development of new and refined brand identity projects from initial concept and ideation to creative completion.Participates in, manages and designs new and refined packaging exploratories, from the Project Definition Phase through the Design Development Phases of the packaging development process.Maintains regular communication with the Director of Creative Design and Studio Manager as to the status and progress of design projects.Positively interacts with other BF Design team members and collaborates in elevating the overall design work product.Ability to prioritize, manage and complete multiple projects.Understands brand team input and can effectively apply information to creative executions.Oversees the secure use and maintenance of the Facility, its equipment and systems; ensures the application of facility policies and procedures regarding visitor and employee security, safety, comfort, and accessibility. Works closely with BF Facility Management in this function. Selects/arranges signage, bar furniture, lounge furniture configuration for aesthetic quality and appearance. Sources special materials as required.Coordinates the reservation system of the various theaters and collaboration spaces.Meets with user groups to identify meeting objectives and review the design theater configurations. Presents concepts/drawings for user group approval and makes changes and corrections as directed. Coordinates detailed planning and specifications for scheduled meetings, exhibits and events; organizes logistics; assists with any “backstage” needs during meetings.Manages the design and installation of the set configurations, including the various on/off premises designs, procures all needed POS, competitive bottle sets, etc. Prepares the space for brand exhibitions/presentation and may assist with installing and disassembling exhibits. Responsible for the extensive inventory of wine and spirits used in the on/off premises environments.Coordinate the design and oversight of construction of theater set ups, exhibits, including development of floor plan, determination of lighting requirements, object placement, and graphics. Coordinates internal exhibition production planning and scheduling.Manages the creation and installation of temporary design exhibitions. Ensures the design, delivery and maintenance of high-quality exhibitions, displays, graphics and other 2D and 3D design to provide a positive temporary brand experience for a wide range of employees and visitors.
Must Experience:Conceptual designer with a bachelor’s degree in a design related discipline3-5 years experience in graphic design, and/or brand identity and package design Consumer package goods experience.Experience using excellent verbal and written skills.Proven experience maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external personnel and creative agencies. Experience maintaining confidentiality of information. Experience managing outside vendors, including press checks and prototypingExperience maintaining flexible work schedules.
Preferred Experience:
1. Design agency or design department environment experience
2. Strong background in design project management, experience working in small collaborative teams
3. Proven ability to manage freelance designers and production artists
4. Outstanding creative portfolio of brand identity and package design
5. 3-dimensional design, theatrical design or stage management experience.
6. Experience visualizing business strategy & branding aesthetics in various artistic forms.
7. Knowledge of Brown-Forman corporate culture, brands, and procedures.
Skills:
1. Proficient in all design related Macintosh software
2. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of design trends
3. Expert in creating final and working art files
