Systems Engineer II

Provide computer systems support by planning, configuring, installing, and maintaining hardware and operating system software so that they function in a stable, secure, and efficient manner.

Must have recent experience in an active & exchange directory.

1. General Operational Support of Yellow Book USA Server Environment including planning, staging, trouble ticket resolution, participation in on-call rotation and work order completion.
2. Installation and configuration of Yellow Book USA servers.
3. Day-to-day operating system support of Yellow Book USA server environment.
4. Day-to-day operating system support for other team members.
5. Proactively monitor usage and model growth, to be able to recommend to management when additional resources may be needed as requirements grow/change.
6. Analyze system and applications software malfunctions, and assist in problem resolution in a timely manner.
7. Work in conjunction with related departments to provide needed services.
8. Research new technologies that may be used in the creation of new solutions for Yellow Book’s growing environment, including attending training and conferences as required.
9. Establish and maintain ongoing contact with hardware and software vendors, including the tracking of systems advisories.
10. At management’s direction, proactively investigate, demonstrate, and test software versions and test new hardware implementations.
11. Mentor less-experienced systems administration staff to develop technical expertise.
12. Provide input into the creation of department policy/process guidelines.
13. Act as key project resources and project lead for new applications systems that may impact IT hardware and operating systems needs, and assist in the development of project timelines/deadlines.
14. Install and configure operating systems, additional system-related utilities and overall operating environments to ensure are properly prepared for host applications.
15. Direct performance tuning efforts (this includes individual application areas and the overall systems environment), in order to better utilize exiting machine resources.
16. Perform basic to complex maintenance and configurations.
17. Use significant project management skills and tools to create and track projects.
18. Interface with customers, peers, management, and vendors in a tactful, professional manner.
19. Be accountable for project’s success and timeliness.
20. Manage projects within budget.
21. Demonstrate very strong problem management skills.
22. Other duties assigned.

3-5 years prior experience working with relevant hardware and operating systems software. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Publishing, Mathematics, or equivalent business experience preferred. Excellent verbal and written skills required. Very strong troubleshooting skills. Hands-on person with end-user support skills to assist in the implementation of a variety of applications. Very good project management and customer interface skills. Experience with Windows clustering and Blade System.
