Truck Driver

POSITION OVERVIEW

The incumbent is responsible for the operation of a tractor and trailer with capacity of more than 3 tons to transport materials to and from specified destinations in a safe manner. The trailer can be anywhere from 24 to 53 feet long.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Must be at least 23 years old and have a CDL Class A license. • Drives truck to destination in a safe and efficient manner. • Completes pre-trip inspection and checks the straps on the load. • Compares the product on the truck with the paperwork. • Delivers and off-loads material in accordance with route and paperwork. • Collects payment for goods delivered and for delivery charges. • Maintains truck log according to state and federal regulations. • Maintains telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive delivery instructions. • Inspects truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water. • Cleans inside of truck. • Performs emergency roadside repairs such as changing tires, installing light bulbs, tire chains, and spark  plugs. • Positions blocks and straps items to secure cargo during transit. • Returns to the base upon completion of delivery of the product to all the customers and conducts a post-trip inspection.  This includes checking brakes, tires, lights and straps. Completes report and takes it to the office.
