Associate LAN/Network Specialist

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:  Individual will support the U.S. Navy Space and Naval Warfare System Command, System Center Charleston. Primary responsibility is to staff a Tier III Help Desk which provides Information Assurance (IA) support for the hospitals and other facilities that comprise the Navy Medical Health System (MHS). The task will require receiving calls from sites via phone, understanding the issues involved and documenting this information in the form of a trouble ticket to be passed to the appropriate support personnel. Basic trouble shooting processes will need to be performed by the applicant. Monitoring of MHS enterprise architectures will also be necessary to be proactive in defining events that may impact the infrastructure. This will necessitate performing shift work to staff the consolidated MHS Help Desk that will operate 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and 52 weeks per year.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:  An Associate's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related IT discipline from an accredited institution and three (3) years of related IT experience is required.  High school diploma or GED with relevant certifications and five (5) years of direct IT-related experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.  Candidate must have experience with the operational support of fielded network devices, including routers and switches. Additional Experience with Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), firewalls, Intrusion Detection Systems, and knowledge of Network Security or Information Assurance is desirable.  Minimal knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory is also desirable.GENERAL EXPECTATIONS: Candidate selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
