JOB DESCRIPTION
- Help develop technical concepts for new projects
- Help prepare project cost and time estimates
- Support the sales effort with proposal technical content
- Design custom control systems
- Select controllers, sensors, cables, panels, power supplies, etc.
- Analyze designs for environmental conditions, power consumption, etc.
- Work with suppliers on technical issues and specs
- Obtain and evaluate bids for outsourced elements
- Participate in larger or lead smaller programming tasks
- Develop documentation of finished products
- Generate and manage bills of materials
- Some interface with customers
- Assist in assembly, testing, installation and commissioning
- Track design against cost goals
- Generate end-customer documentation and training material

- Any modern E-CAD package
- Use of MRP/ERP systems and processes
- More than PLC programming skills desired
RELATED EXPERIENCE
While the main skills required for this position relate to controls hardware and software, the candidate must have at least an understanding and interest in the related areas of system and mechanical engineering. Ideally, the applicant will have experience in some of the following areas:
- Machine Control Programming (Visual Basic, C#, .NET)
- PLC programming (such as per IEC 61131)
- HMI programming (Wonderware, Indusoft, etc.)
- Industrial networking (DeviceNet, Profibus, EtherNet/IP, ASI, Profibus, SERCOS, etc.)
- Machine vision systems (Matrox, Cognex, NI, DVT, PPT, Banner, Keyence, etc.)
- Servo control (Setup and tuning)
- Safety controllers and standards (ANSI/RIA 15.9, OSHA)
- Robot programming (FANUC, ABB, Motoman, Kuka, Adept, etc.)
- Wiring diagram creation (AutoCAD Electrical, Promise, VIA, E3, ePlan, etc.)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 2 year Associate's Degree in a relevant technical discipline
- 5+ years experience in industrial automation and machine design
- Strong CAD skills
- Willing to submit to a background check and drug test
- Valid drivers license
- Authorized to work in the U.S
- Ability to travel on an occasional basis (less than 4-5 wks/yr)
