Together with the Earth Departure Stage, the Lunar Surface Access Module and the associated launch infrastructure, the Orion is one of the elements of Project Constellation. This position reports to the Orion Software Technical Director in the Space Applications group. The Orion Software/Systems Engineer (SSE) will be part of a team responsible for the overall software /systems engineering activities for the Orion Avionics Flight Software (FSW) composed of 5 CSCIs. This position is responsible for helping define the software/system requirements and high-level architecture for the Orion Flight Software (FSW). The SSE will work with the System Engineering Integration & Test (SEIT) group and system design teams. Activities will also include total compliance with prescribed CMMI software development processes. Mentoring of other team members will be necessary as the team grows.  The candidate will be required to work with the customer to define the high-level system requirements, develop software/system requirements, verify requirements traceability, perform or participate in trade studies, and be familiar with system engineering processes. The candidate will be required to develop operational / functional / implementation requirements, concept of operations and functional architecture for the FSW. The candidate will be required to participate in embedded and non-embedded software design in addition to writing / executing system integration tests. Previous experience in developing new design architectures for avionics or embedded health management systems with minimal guidance is desired.  NASA manned spaceflight operations knowledge or experience is desired. The candidate will support other System Software tasks (documentation, requirements database updating, etc) as required to support the Orion Flight Software development effort. The Software/Systems Engineer will be able use discretion and professional judgment, based on necessary experience, to provide good written reports and oral presentations to program or engineering management and customers to explain technical approaches and project status. Position requires good people skills and ability to work effectively with other organizations and individuals at all levels from aides to upper management. Candidate must be process oriented and follow prescribed CMMI processes.  Position is located in Glendale Arizona.  Must be a US Citizen or a Legal US Permanent Resident.Basic Qualifications BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
