Chief Architect
Summary:
The Chief Architect will have the responsibility for developing the physical software architecture for programs within the Special Projects Division (SPD). The candidate must have extensive experience in Unified Modeling Language (UML) analysis, function point analysis, and software architecture design. Candidate will have strong communication skills. Candidate will have experience implementing Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) based architectures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Design of a UML/CORBA based architecture for battle management systems, hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL), and other software applications; Approval authority over and responsibility for all SPD software architectures; Evaluation of all UML products produced prior to baseline or delivery; Establishing a training program for UML based requirements and software development; Incorporation of architecture activities into the appropriate integrated master schedule (IMS); and Development/Refinement of any SPD processes related to architecture activities. Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not currently have any direct supervisory responsibilities. However, staff may be added as required depending on specific program needs. The Chief Architect will have the authority, via Project Manager (PM) direction, to dictate architectural decisions to SPD staff for implementation. The Chief Architect will report directly to the PM or his authorized representative. The Chief Architect is a member of the SPD senior staff (internal to the division). The Chief Architect can be assigned supervisory responsibilities as needed by the SPD Director as needed.

Education and Experience:
The candidate should have a BS degree from an accredited college or university and have at least 20 years of experience in software development. Current experience with CMMI and the development of battle management, command and control product applications are a definite plus.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and understand information from various sources related to the human resources field. Ability to create reports and write correspondence that is clear and well organized. Ability to speak effectively before corporate officers, managers, and employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to use basic mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, discounts, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must have the ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must have the ability to conceptually grasp the “big picture” with regards to a systems purpose.
Other Job-Related Skills
Ability to work well with others (co-workers, business clients, company employees, customers). Ability to report to work on a regular basis and in a timely manner. Must possess strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in UML, CORBA, Real Time Software development / architecture design, Battle Management/Command, Control and Communications (BMC3) software, C++, C, Java, Python, and Ada.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Object Modeling Group (OMG) certifications a strong plus

Work is accomplished in a moderately clean office environment with adequate environmental (heating/ cooling) control. The noise level in the work environment may occasionally be moderate due to noises associated with computer equipment, telephones, and environmental control systems. This position is primarily accomplished in an office environment, but there will be occasions when the candidate may be required to travel outside the office. While overnight travel away from the home office should be rare, it is likely that occasional travel may be required.
