Cryogenics Technician

LOCATION: CENTENNIAL, CO 80015 Cryogenics Tech (2008-2009) Raytheon Polar Services – Experience Antarctica Seeking a unique adventure as well as employment? Raytheon Polar Services is the primary contractor for the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) U.S. Antarctic Program. We are currently looking for a Cryogenics Tech to deploy to the South Pole Antarctic research station on a contract basis beginning approximately in October of 2007. There are three approximate lengths for the contracts: Summer-October through February, Winter-February through October, and Year-Long-October through October. We are looking for Primary and Alternate employees to fill all contract positions. The Primary is first in line for the position. The Alternate is next in line to deploy should the Primary be unable to meet deployment requirements. Responsibilities: The Cryogenics Tech is r esponsible for assisting in the management of the USAP cryogenics program for South Pole Station. Primary tasking includes: · Monitoring and maintaining a reasonable inventory of cryogenic equipment, including transfer and storage dewars, transfer tubes, fittings, hoses, and other supplies · Ensures adequate inventory of cryogenic containers for all users and maintains an inventory of spare parts and equipment to repair or replace defective components on cryogenics equipment · Maintains, trouble shoots, and repairs cryogenic equipment and instrumentation as needed · Assists in projects that are associated with the use of cryogenic fluids; this includes several telescope based and some atmospheric viewing experiments · Administers, operates and maintains the computer systems needed to control various project functions and assures continuous data collection Required Qualifications: · Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or Science discipline required. Physics degree preferred. Equivalent experience accepted in lieu of a degree. · Two years experience with liquefied gases, or managing a chemical inventory is required. · Some experience in using and safely handling cryogenic systems and materials and maintaining cryogenic storage and production systems is required. · Operational knowledge of Windows and MS Office products and proficiency in Excel required. Preferred Qualifications: · Laboratory experience with physics and science equipment and instrumentation is preferred. · Knowledge of high vacuum systems is an advantage. · Background supporting scientific research is highly preferred.
