Deputy Project Scientist Flight Analogs

Universities Space Research Associations (USRA) Division of Space Life Sciences (DSLS), a non-profit consortium of universities, has an immediate opening for a Deputy Project Scientist to assist the Flight Analog Project Scientist with planning and implementing multi-system human studies consistent with the goals of NASAs Human Research Program, including all scientific aspects of bed rest studies. This is a full-time appointment to work with teams of NASA funded investigators for the purpose of integrating their studies into multi-investigation, spaceflight analog campaigns. The Flight Analogs Project is responsible for developing and evaluating countermeasures to mitigate the affects of spaceflight in earth-based models before they are tested in space ( http://hacd.jsc.nasa.gov/projects/flight_analogs.cfm). The incumbent will be expected to work closely with the Project Scientist to develop integrated protocols, and assist in all scientific aspects of ongoing human studies; including preparation of human subjects approval packages at NASA and the University of Texas Medical Branch, and representation of the Project Scientist at NASA boards and review panels. The incumbent will interface with General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) staff, attending physicians, psychologists, coordinating staff, the Johnson Space Center laboratories, and individual PIs. The successful candidate must be a citizen of the United States.  Domestic and international travel may be required.

A Ph.D. in a life sciences field and several years of experience in human research is preferred. Clinicians with several years of research experience are also encouraged to apply.  Experience with university IRBs and GCRCs is highly desirable.  Applicants should have experience in working with multi-disciplinary teams of investigators.  Superior oral and written communication skills are required, along with exceptional organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.  Experience in performing bed rest studies is highly desirable.
