Designer,III, Tooling

 

Basic Function/Scope

Analyzes product designs submitted by Engineering to develop detail designs for cutting and forming tools used in single and multiple-spindle machining centers (Davenport, Acme, CNC, etc.) and tooling/fixtures for general machine shop use.

This position reports directly to Engineering Manager.

 

  Essential Functions

· Analyze product design input and specifications to determine manufacturability of project proposal

· Create tooling designs in compliance with specified engineering principles, company standards and related specifications and drawings.

· Confer with Product and Manufacturing Engineering staff to clarify or resolve problems and develop tooling designs.

· Prepare or directs the preparation of tooling or system layouts, detailed assembly and component drawings and schematics.

· Initiate, coordinate and follow-up on the manufacturing and building of prototype products of systems.

· Analyzes manufacturing data and reports to determine if tooling designs meets functional and performance expectations and initiate tooling improvement activities as required.

· Uses Computer Aid Design (CAD) system (SolidWorks & AutoCAD) to create assembly drawings from self-gathered or furnished instructions.

· Associate’s degree (Tool Design/Engineering) or training in a technical field and 7-10 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience

· Must be able to read, write, and understand English.
