CITY/STATE: Riverside County, CAPOSITION TYPE: Full Time, EmployeeJOB CATEGORY: Manufacturing/Production/OperationsSALARY: 80,000.00 - 98,000.00 USD /year Diamond Turning Manager Functions: The Diamond Turning Department Manager directs and manages all aspects of Diamond Turning manufacturing. This includes staffing, planning, motivating, organizing, budgeting, quality assurance, new process developments, and cost reduction activities. Directs Diamond Turning human, material, and production resources and activities in support of production schedule, cost reduction and new process requirements. Also coordinates with Production Planning and Control Department to assure on time, responsive deliveries. Maintains strong customer awareness and directs Diamond Turning estimation process. Provide the key technical, operational, business development and administrative support for the Company’s Diamond Turning Business. The Diamond Turning Manager will actively work with and support the Business Development activities as requested. This work will include sales and marketing support, opto-mechanical design, manufacturing process development/engineering, in-process quality assurance, RFQ preparation, proposal writing, optical testing and quality control. Job Requirements: Education: BS Degree in Science or Mechanical Engineering Experience: Minimum 8 years experience in precision diamond machining Responsibilities: Confidential Information: Access to company and customer proprietary design and process information. Access to customer list and customer product design. Access to short-term and long-term business strategy, personnel records, and company’s financial performance. Contacts with Others: Outside vendors, personnel at all levels of the organization including at other divisions, external customers. Errors: Errors can significantly affect yields and costs within the department. Errors related to the quoting process may compromise company reputation with customers and significantly impact performance. Technical errors related to manufacturing may result in significant operating costs and may negatively impact the company’s financial performance. Job Conditions: Working Conditions: Both office and manufacturing environment. Involved daily in the operations of manufacturing products and required to complete engineering and administrative tasks to support the Diamond Turning Product Line. Additionally, interaction with customers (including sister divisions) may require travel to customers locations and Trade Shows for Sales and Marketing assignments. .Key Job ElementsWeightGoals and Objectives 1. Annual Budget and Strategic Plans are prepared in line with corporate direction, on time and are met. Concise definitions of capital and expense cost are provided. Develop a thorough understanding of the Diamond Turning process including machine setup for flycutting and 2-axis operations in different materials and component configurations. 2. Manage DT Operations 40%A. Production Supervisor is kep informed of major issues within departmentB. Monthly reporting of key department metrics such as booking, shipments, yield, OTD, quote activity, etc…. is published timely and reviewed with management and staff. C. Work procedures are developed and maintained to insure process control and improve yields. D. Controls operating expenses and develops opportunities to reduce operating costs though process improvements and close oversight. E. Interfaces with Maintenance Department to establish equipment repair schedules and insures compliance with these schedules. F. Minimize the level of equipment downtime. G. Coordinates with Production Planning and Control to determine and achieve desired production schedule. H. Appropriate Staffing levels are maintained. Excess personnel should be cross trained and transferred to other areas of need. Opportunities to cross train personnel from other departments is considered. I. Reworks, scrap and warranty returns are minimized. 3. Process Engineering15%A. Program plans are detailed to track and document manufacturing of custom diamond turned components and tooling.B. Engineering process should detail critical manufacturing steps and quality control requirements consistent with the company’s Manufacturing Excellence Program (MEP).C. Develop process controls and procedures for flycutting and 2-axis machining that are consistent with MEP and standardized and deterministic.5. Optical Testing and Product Quality10%A. Diamond turned optical components are tested and qualified for all mechanical customer requirements in a timely manner.B. Quality documentation is recorded and communicated to QA Department to support customer and QA requirements.C. Active support is provided to the QA department in the form of actual inspection or education as needed. D. Efforts to internalize in process inspection and streamline the EEO QA involvement in Diamond Turned product is encouraged. QA Management must support initiatives in this area. 6. Support Business Development Activity20%A. Quotes are prepared and technical risks are evaluated and effectively communicated to pricing committee. B. Customer visits are made routinely to interact primarily with the technical/engineering teams to understand current and future business opportunities. C. Trade shows are attended as appropriate to develop business opportunities and gather information on the competitive marketplace. D. Provide input to the monthly Diamond Turing Sales and Marketing Report.
