Director/VP of Engineering

Provides management review and control over multiple units of engineering work, including development of projects, structures, or processes as part of a major engineering program.  This manager position usually integrates several specialized areas of engineering to serve a particular business segment, or directs a single specialization serving several business units.  Manages one discipline over a range of products or processes, or a diverse range of engineering disciplines within subordinate units.  Focuses on managerial concerns of the project such as cost, completion date, resource allocation; provides expert resolution of issues and monitors integration of work. Reviews technical concepts of major projects.  Personally participates in solving particularly difficult technical problems.  Responsible for recruitment, performance reviews and training needs. Manages subordinate managers, supervisors, exempt and nonexempt associates. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training associates, planning assigning, addressing complaints and resolving problems. Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required. Master’s degree is preferred (Mechanical, Aeronautical, Engineering Mgmt). A minimum of 8 years management experience. Prior engineering management experience in aerospace, appliances, medical or pneumatic devices. Production Management is a plus. Experience with regulatory agencies is required.  Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.  Must have demonstrated success in growing and managing a large Engineering Department.  Must have strong leadership skills, both functionally and cross-functionally, and be highly accountable for meeting all commitments and deadlines.  The candidate must be an independent and innovative thinker with sound decision-making skills and be able to drive decision-making across multiple functions. Must be a strong problem solver capable of anticipating issues and aggressively resolving them.  Ability to build effective relationships across functions and organizations and must have a strong commitment to customer satisfaction.  The candidate must exhibit financial discipline and solid planning skills.  International customer experience is required and must have the ability to travel up to 25%.
