Director of R&D

Large Chemical/Materials company needs an experienced Director of R&D.  Ideal candidate will have a combination of R&D skills along with a track record of Supervision in an R&D environment. 

Will:  Lead the Product Development Organizations for the Americas and Pacific Rim.  This includes the Composites Product Development and Adhesives Product Development organizations. 

Lead the development of the balanced short and long-term technology for the organization including the identification of our customers current and future direction and the key technologies needed to deliver value to these customers. 

Serve as a member of the Technology Leadership Team with accountability to the VP of Global Technology for the performance, strategic actions and business plan. 

Foster the use of best-practices in innovation, project management, scientific method, product introduction and reporting across the organization, ensuring a high degree of connection between market segment needs and research projects. 

Establish strong relationships with technology leaders at key customers leading to a high level of cooperation and collaboration. 

Manage the organization within the allocated budget, making decisions and raising issues that provide for the greatest return to our shareholders while maintaining our long-term competitiveness.

Establish and execute the talent development plan.  This includes mentoring/coaching of direct reports and ensuring that high quality development plans are in place throughout the organization that enable the organization to execute the long term strategy. 

EXPERIENCE:  Demonstrated ability to develop a compelling vision and inspire others to follow.  Build strategic relationships and alliances across organizations or companies.  Manage a geographically dispersed (virtual) team to accomplish goals in a timely manner.  Demonstrated ability to develop and execute long-term strategies that enhance the market position of the company.  Managed new product development and ensure that products stratetically meet a market need while supporting a competitive position in the market place.  Demonstrated confidence and decisiveness in a high pressure and highly visible role.  Lead significant change with broad organizational impact. 

Need to understand Composites/materials/adhesives/prepreg products. 

Need to understand ADVANCED materials. 

Knowlege of trends in Aerospace/Aviation. 

Need to be a leader in R&D.....  Leadership in this job is just as important if not more so than R&D skills. 

Need to be able to work in USA with NO sponsorship........ 

Need to have a MS or Ph. D. in Material Science, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering or similar.  Must have experience with Polymers, Adhesives, and Composite Materials.
