Honeywell International is a $36 billion diversified technology and manufacturing leader, serving customers worldwide with aerospace products and services; control technologies for buildings, homes and industry; automotive products; turbochargers; and specialty materials. Based in Morris Township, N.J., Honeywell’s shares are traded on the New York, London and Chicago Stock Exchanges. For additional information, please visit www.honeywell.com The company is committed to providing quality products, integrated system solutions and services to customers around the world. Honeywell products touch the lives of most people everyday, whether you’re flying on a plane, driving a car, heating or cooling a home, furnishing an apartment, taking medication for an illness or playing a sport. The System Modeling Methods group has an opening for an experienced gas turbine engineer with a combination of experience in aerodynamics and software engineering. The qualified applicant will join an existing software project, Fast1D. Fast1D is an integrated suite of performance, aerodynamics, and mechanical system design software for conceptual gas turbine analysis. In addition to engine performance, the system is used for efficiency and stall margin prediction, flow path generation, and mechanical system sizing.Responsibilities will include software development, in particular thermodynamic & aerodynamic software development, calibration of aerodynamic predictions, documentation, user training, and regular support of the application to current engine programs. Communication of development status to end-users and management is also required.A strong academic background, including courses in physics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, gas dynamics, and mathematics, is needed. Practical experience in thermodynamic cycle and/or aerodynamic compressor/turbine design is beneficial. Experience in numerical analysis, vector diagram determination, streamline curvature solutions, and calibration of aerodynamic loss models is also needed.Must be highly motivated, willing to learn, and have a strong belief in the goals of the project and be willing to serve as an advocate. Must be able to think as and be capable of making decisions for the end-user to develop effective software. Knowledge of software engineering fundamentals, including software development processes, architecture, coding, software configuration management and high level software languages and operating systems is desirable. An advanced degree in Physics, Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering is best. An exceptional individual with a B.S. degree, strong turbomachinery background, and a broad knowledge of the literature would be acceptable.
