Engineering Fellow-Airborne Architect
LOCATION: EL SEGUNDO, CA 90245 Airborne Radar System Architecture (E44) Job Description: Expert in airborne radars to develop systems architectures and shape requirements for highly sophisticated radar systems. Develop novel architectures leveraging core capabilities and identifying opportunities for innovation across Raytheon SAS. Lead architecture trades to identify ‘best value’ and competitively differentiated solution offerings. Collaborate with internal and external customers to understand radar use and potential architecture impacts. Be responsible for analyzing requirements, documenting and negotiating, derived flow-down and interface requirements while balancing cost, schedule and quality. Develop the analysis to predict overall system performance, error margins and budgets (link budget). Assume technical leadership of peer groups and provides technical mentoring to programs as subject matter expert on radar systems. Work closely with the customer(s) to better understand both the written and un-written requirements for system performance, quality, reliability, top level costs and thereby negotiate key performance requirements, while assessing impact on total life cycle cost, schedule, and program technical risk. Support the development and flow down of systems requirements, error budget trees, and performance modeling, simulation and analysis. Participate in the requirements, development, implementation and validation of key performance test matrices. Work among engineering disciplines and business development organization to coordinate the development of radar systems. Basic Requirements: The candidate must have working knowledge in: · Radar subsystems: antennas, receiver-exciter, radar processors, power supplies, mission computer · Key interfaces connecting the subsystems mentioned above · Mechanical and electrical installation limitations (Form/fit factors, size, weight, power, RF interference vibration, cooling, temperature fluctuations) of the radar inside the airborne platform · Highly knowledgeable in radar systems (especially airborne), · Strong understanding / experience with "kill-chain": detection, processing, search and tracking, decision making, missile launch. · Good understanding of different radar applications (modes) including SAR (synthetic aperture radar) mapping, search modes, Air-to-Air, Air-Ground, tracking algorithms, ground moving target indicator GMTI, weather, etc. · Good understanding of radar components, antenna design/structure, transmitter, receiver/exciter, T/R modules, computer processors, and real time software development. · Good understanding of resolving interference, clutter, jamming in radar systems · Understand of Reliability, supportability, and manufacturability issues · Impact of enclosures (i.e., nose cone) on the radar performance The candidate must have practical and applied knowledge in: · Airborne CONOPS and military mission needs · Development of airborne radar system architectures · DoD Architecture Framework products · End-to-end systems performance analysis · Performance of Air-to-Air and Air-to-Ground modes as functins of the Radar HW performance · Modeling the radar systems in accordance to performance measures · Radar interface with Air-to-Air and Air-to-Ground weapons. Basic Requirements Continued: - Secret Clearance required, and be able to obtain SSBI - 10+ years experience in Radar design and development. - Knowledgeable in Airborne Radar Systems. Leadership Competencies: - Strong Communication skills - Effectively Partner with Customers - Agile - Listening skills Customers: Air Force Navy Required Education: MS in Aerospace Engineering, Physics or Electrical Engineering PhD preferred.
