Environmental Engr/Scientist 2 Position Description Utilizes environmental programs to support site and/or facility compliance (e.g., policies, procedures, process guides, tip sheets, training tools, etc.) to minimize environmental liability. Conducts compliance reviews (e.g., observation, document review, systems evaluation, records) of internal processes and practices, using established protocols, to ensure regulatory compliance. Supports the development of corrective actions to address findings and ensure compliance. Utilizes existing processes and systems to maintain environmental records to ensure regulatory compliance. Prepares regulatory reports (e.g., emission, discharge, disposal, release, etc.) and/or permit applications (e.g., air, water, waste, etc.) for review by collecting, analyzing, compiling and interpreting data in order to meet regulatory requirements and schedules. Monitors vendor, contractor and/or supplier activities associated with environmental issues for services (e.g., remediation, waste disposal, abatement, etc.) by supporting bid specifications (e.g., scope of work, schedule, performance criteria, environmental requirements, etc.), and documents and tracks performance to ensure contractual performance and regulatory compliance. Supports the preparation of environmental risk analysis (e.g., off site consequence analysis, air dispersion model, release potential, etc.) and assists in the determination of methods for prevention (e.g., training, engineering controls, facility modification, etc.), control and contingency measures in order to decrease company exposure to minimize risk and ensure regulatory compliance. Supports and participates in the planning and coordination of emergency response activities (e.g., drills, training, regulatory requirements/notifications/evacuations, contractor coordination, etc.) in order to respond to environmental emergencies in a safe, timely manner to ensure regulatory compliance. Assists in assuring appropriate corrective action and follow-up to prevent reoccurrence. Evaluates facility conditions and suggests alternatives for cleanup or decontamination following established protocols to ensure regulatory compliance. Collects and reviews data (e.g., chemical release data, existing conditions, treatment technologies, etc.) to select the most appropriate clean-up options. Determines appropriate design, selection, installation and operation of pollution control equipment, waste and chemical process systems, while working with others. On a team, identifies risks in order to reduce costs and to ensure regulatory compliance. Supports the primary site interface with relevant agencies during regulatory inspections, information requests and other activities to ensure regulatory compliance. Education and/or Experience Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry and typically 2 to 4 years experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with up to 2 years experience in an engineering classification. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
