Epidemiologist-NASA Johnson Space Center

The position is designed to support the Biomedical Data Reduction and Analysis (BDRA) project.  This includes epidemiological assessment of countermeasures, data extraction and archival of BDRA flight data, management of data handling policies, and developing reports and presentations.  This includes providing deliverables to meet the goals and objectives of the BDRA BPT and conducting other tasks as determined by management.
This position will also assist in the analysis and reporting of longitudinal studies supporting the Space Medicine Program at Johnson Space Center.  This includes performing data extraction, statistical analysis, reviewing scientific literature, preparing tables and graphs, and developing reports, presentations and papers for Epidemiology Section projects.


Responsible for compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental Plan; must be committed to high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the Company's safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel.  Responsible for compliance with the Quality Assurance Plan, Policies and Procedures. Must maintain regular and acceptable level attendance level as determined by the Company.
Support BDRA activities such as the following:
-Compile medical data from hard copy records, spreadsheets and databases.
-Verify quality control and quality assurance of data during data analyses.
-Download and prepare data for analyses, use SAS and other statistical programs to complete analyses, prepare graphs and tables for reports.
-Provide weekly status reports of work activities to Epidemiology section supervisor.
-Epidemiological assessment of countermeasures
-Assist in the integration of MAT/ITR data into existing databases.
-Data extraction, manipulation and analysis of data. Use SAS and other statistical programs to complete analyses, prepare graphs and tables for reports/presentations.
-Assist in the management of BDRA data handling policies.
-Provide support to the BDRA Integrated Product Team by performing and completing deliverables to meet the goals and objectives of the project.
-Support LSAH activities such as the following:
-Write articles for the LSAH newsletter.
-Complete comprehensive literature reviews including the identification and location of relevant publications.
-Coordinate BDRA and LSAH activities as needed.
-Comply with security procedures.
-Provide weekly status reports of work activities to supervisor.

This position requires an MS or MPH in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Informatics or related field, plus 4 years experience.  Prior experience must have been sufficient to develop the knowledge and skills required to complete comprehensive literature reviews, analyze data using SAS, and to prepare graphs and tables for reports.

Microsoft Office software, excellent written and oral communication skills required.  Ability to work in small teams and independently.  Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary setting and where there is frequently divergent or competing goals for the project implementation and outcome.  Ability to work independently, complete comprehensive literature reviews, perform statistical and data mining analyses and to prepare final reports, papers and presentations desired.
