That's why we're here. Facilities Plant Engineer 3 Position Description Produces and procures complete working drawing packages for modifications to buildings, structure, utilities and other systems in support of site operations. Apply knowledge of engineering principals and theories to design and analyze facilities electrical systems (e.g., power, equipment installations, control, and monitoring systems, etc.). Develops moderately complex conceptual designs, final designs, cost estimates and provides maintenance support for the electrical systems of buildings and site. Reviews electrical designs to assess compliance with customer requirements, building codes and applicable regulations by applying knowledge of electrical engineering and construction principles. Integrates the activities of multiple engineering disciplines, outside consultants and government agencies. Communicates problems and issues to others for resolution. Manages or supports construction projects by providing input on vendor selection; reviews contractor proposals; interfaces with government/regulatory agencies; monitors project progress and vendor/consultant performance. Prepares and presents project information to ensure compliance with applicable construction documents and jurisdictional requirements and to meet project objectives. Uses appropriate resources to produce project drawings, specifications, and permit application packages in accordance with project parameters. Translates customer requirements into electrical design options with documents and estimates. Identifies appropriate materials, and services by applying electrical engineering principles. With limited supervision, develops and updates electrical design standards and site-specific operating procedures in order to establish common practices. Provides input to strategic, short-term, and long-term infrastructure planning; completes studies; analyzes current electrical systems conditions and future requirements; recommends capital improvement. Competencies General/Leadership [ + ] Continuous Learning Seeks and uses feedback from own work group, other work groups, and occasionally external customers and a wide range of other sources of information to identify appropriate areas for learning. Identifies and participates in appropriate learning activities (e.g., courses, reading, self-study, coaching, experiential learning) that help fulfill learning needs. Participates in learning activities in a way that makes the most of the learning experience (e.g., takes notes, asks questions, critically analyzes information, keeps on-the-job application in mind, does required tasks). Consistently puts new knowledge, understanding, or skill to practical use on the job; furthers learning through trial and error. Places self in unfamiliar or uncomfortable situations in order to ask questions and learn; takes on challenging or unfamiliar assignments. [ + ] Managing Work Identifies critical and less critical activities and tasks within own and other work groups; adjusts priorities when appropriate. Ensures that required equipment and/or materials are in appropriate locations so that own and others' work can be done effectively. Allocates own time to complete work; coordinates own and others' schedules to avoid conflicts. Takes advantage of available resources (individuals, processes, departments, and tools) to complete work efficiently. Uses time effectively and rarely allows irrelevant issues or distractions from interfering with work completion. [ + ] Project Management Experienced in creating comprehensive project schedules identifying time frames for key project milestones. Directs and manages more complex project schedules; independently identifies project resource requirements, may collaborate with others on the most complex projects assigned or assist more experienced employees in complex large scale projects. Ability to accept, direct and perform responsibilities and work assigned tasks as a project team member in support of the overall project; leads and directs the activities and resources of assigned projects and supports higher graded employees in more large scale and complex projects.Technical [ + ] Electrical Engineer Analysis Complete knowledge of electrical engineering theories (e.g., Kirchoff's Law, Ohm's Law, lighting, power factor, control theory), formula selection (e.g., room cavity ratios, short-circuit, voltage drop, motor counts, capacitor, harmonic correction, load calculations), and methods (e.g., relay coordination, root cause analysis). [ + ] Electrical Engr Regulations Complete knowledge of applicable electrical engineering regulations/standards (e.g., OSHA, CALOSHA, WISHA, Institute of Electrical Electronic Engineering Standards, American National Standards Institute, National Fire Protection Association Standard, Underwriters Laboratory Testing Lab), codes (e.g., National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code), and ordinances (e.g., local building code amendments, energy code). [ + ] Electrical Safety Practices Complete knowledge of electrical safety practices (e.g., lockout-tag out, personal protective equipment, grounding). [ + ] Engineering Drawings & Specs Complete ability to read, understand, and interpret basic engineering drawings and specifications. [ + ] Facilities Elect Engr Maint Complete knowledge of electrical systems, equipment, and components' maintenance practices and requirements. [ + ] Facilities Electrical Systems Complete knowledge of electrical systems (e.g., medium and low voltage distribution systems, uninterruptible power systems, stand-by systems, paging/public address/communication systems, control systems, co-generation systems, fire detection systems, grounding system), capability, capacity, operating characteristics (e.g., power factor, load, voltage requirements, efficiencies), and constructability (e.g., wiring methods, space, interface, interferences). Education and/or Experience Requires educational credentials meeting the Boeing classification standards for engineers and typically 5 to 8 years' experience in an engineering classification or educational credentials meeting the Boeing classification standards for engineers and either a Master's degree with 3 to 6 years' experience or a PhD degree with 0 to 3 years' experience in an engineering classification.
