LOCATION: CENTENNIAL, CO 80015 Field Instructor Lead 08-09 Raytheon Polar Services - Experience Antarctica Seeking a unique adventure as well as employment? How would you like to be one of the few people on the planet to have the opportunity to live and work in Antarctica? Raytheon Polar Services is the primary contractor for the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) U.S. Antarctic Program. We are currently looking for Field Instructor Lead to deploy to McMurdo, South Pole or Palmer research stations on a contract basis beginning in August of 2008. There are three lengths for the contracts: Summer-(Approximately) August or October through February, Winter-(Approximately) February through October, and Year-Long-(Approximately) October through October. We are looking for Primary and Alternate employees to fill all contract positions. The Primary is first in line for the position. The Alternate is next in line to deploy should the Primary be unable to meet deployment requirements. Duties and Responsibilities -Coordinates and executes training programs for science groups, other sub-contractors (e.g. air support providers), military and RPSC personnel as required. -Provides instruction on radio procedures, area familiarization, local weather, mountaineering, survival techniques, crevasse rescue, sea ice travel and first aid. Demonstrates use and basic maintenance of field equipment (camp stoves, tents, sleeping bags, climbing gear, etc.). -Assists science parties as a safety leader/WFR as needed. -Assists special Operations projects as a safety officer as required. -Participates in Joint Antarctic Search and Rescue Team as USAP team leader. -Responsible for planning and coordinating all Search and Rescue trainings. -Responsible for selecting all non-FSTP members of the Primary and Secondary Search and Rescue Team. -Operates and maintains snowmobiles, Pisten Bullys, Hagglunds, Tuckers, and all other equipment issued to the Field Safety Training Program. -Models and helps to develop field safety protocols. Ensures compliance with applicable Safety, Environment, Health, and Waste Management policies and procedures. -Interacts with National Science Foundation, contract, military and other agency officials, both over the telephone and in person, in a professional and tactful manner. -Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace. -Performs other duties as required. Required Experience -High school diploma or equivalent required. -Valid Drivers license required. - Current CPR certification and current Wilderness First Responder certification required. -A minimum of ten years experience in outdoor education and leadership is required, to include at least four years of technical mountaineering and guiding in glaciated alpine environments. Search and Rescue experience required. -Extensive experience in glacier mountaineering with demonstrated expedition leadership is required. -A proven ability to work in remote, harsh environmental, as a team player, is required. Preferred Experience -BS/BA degree preferred. -Mountain guiding certification in UIAGM, AMGA is preferred. -Search and Rescue experience preferred. -Denali level or other big mountain experience preferred. -Industrial Rope Rescue Certification is preferred. Additional Polar Information Contract compensation includes reimbursement of expenses to physically qualify, weekly salary, travel to and from the ice, room & board, and you are eligible for a performance based bonus upon successful completion of your contract.
